| I want to upgrade my 2004 base MDX stereo. I have bought an Alpine CDA-9827 head unit and have 2 amps from my previous car. Both are Rockford Fosgate 2-channel amps (50W and 20W per channel). I am looking for speaker and subwoofer upgrade recommendations to use with these amps. Should I use the existing speaker wiring or rewire the entire SUV, since I am adding amps. |

If you don't mind spending a lot more time carefully routing the wires AND have YOU the experience to carefully put evertyhing back into place you WILL get a superior system with all new wiring if you DIY.
Bigger/better wiring means MORE current to the speakers and that means MORE volume/bass/treble clarity.. Better shielding in aftermarket wires/connects means LESS chance for hum/noise/interference.
That said, the stock wiring is probably could for all but "competition style" systems, so I would NOT pay big money for an "upgrade" -- especially if the 'installers' are high school kids who could leave with a system that sounds/looks worse than stock.
Further, if you first upgrade the head unit wiring , your "upgrade potential" will mean that the you can use upgraded wiring back to the AMPS which is really the more crucial link for noise fighting... |
