Hello,
I am enquiring for a wide body side moldings for my 2005 blackhawk night color X from an acura dealrship over inetrnet

They responded that they do have body side ( 2 inch wide) molding kit in stock.

My questions are :

1. Is the wide body molding for 2005 MDX is 2 inches wide?

2. Is there any difference between a 2005 wide body side molding previous year models?

3. How do I know if the body side molding that I will receive is of 2005?

4. Is there any narrow body side molding for MDX 2005?

5. Is there any reference on how to install it as DIY? Is it advisable to do it by yorself?

6. What is the safest place/heaight to install it?

7. Can it be removed after installation?

Thanks in advance

XLover,

The answers are:

1. 2" - 2 3/4" wide.

2. 2004 introduced the wider BSM's to the product line.

3. If you order the wide BSM's, it will be wide ones used on the 2004 and 2005.

4. The narrow BSM's came out in 2000 and are still available. I upgraded my narrow BSM's to wider BSM's last year...more protection and better styling.

5. It comes with templates for proper placement and DIY installation is easy.

6. See 5.

7. Yes.

Thanks Excalibur,

Thanks for your replies. But just curious. When you removed the narrow BSms, did you have to paint your car again?

What is the procedure for removal if not properly installed? I have never done any auto installation by myself. I am asking this just in case I will mess it up.

How much will the dealer would charge? Any idea?

Thanks

XLover,

It is not necessary to repaint your MDX when removing BSM's. If you have a heat gun or hair dryer, you can gently apply some heat to the BSM's to loosen them up. Then, get some fishing line or double up some dental floss and use a sawing motion to cut through the double-sided tape that holds the BSM's on. Be sure to wear some gloves so your BSM's get sawed and not your fingers. Finally, clean up any left over residue with a soft cloth soaked in some rubbing alcohol. Save your hard-earned money. The dealer's are well-paid as it is. If you are a new DIYer, installing the BSM's is a good first-time project. Just take your time. Good luck.:29:

It is a very, very simple DIY project. As it seemed just a bit awkward to hold by myself I got my wife to hold one end while I started the other. This is really not necessary but just a precaution.

I did install mine 2 1/2 inches higher than the template. Did this so that possible it would provide more protection against dings. This was really the only reason I install. To install it higher I just cut of 2 1/2" from the template.

Cannot really say that the molding, or installing it higher, will help with dings but it surely will cannot hurt.

If your internet dearlership is not Ray Laks Acura, then check with Tim first. www.hondacuraworld.com

Most of us get our accessories from Tim; I have bought 2 sets of BSM from them (for the old '01 MDX and the current '04). :1:

Dear friends, Thanks for your replies.

I am planning to order my BSMs (2 inches wide) from curryacura. They have quoted me for 174.00 with shipping included. Tim charging 180.00 plus shiping. What do you guys say?

Does Tim give some discount being the member of this exclusive club?

Colton, have you put your X's pictires anywhere in this site with BSMs. I want to see how does it look to offset the recommended installation.

Thanks

For six bucks, I'd buy it from Tim. (I think he includes shipping, too.) His service is top notch, and most of his other prices are better than you'll find elsewhere. He does have Monthly Specials if you wnat to wait for BSM to roll around again.

Guys,
Now that I got my wide body side moldings from Tim, the next step is how to do it by myself. ANy step by step instructions would be great. If possible with pictures.

Being the first DIY I am kinda nervous. Tim did sent two instruction/measurement hard board cuttings, but don't know how to use it.

What does it mean by "Character Line" . ANy help would be appreciated.

XLover,

The "Character Line" is the protruding crease that runs horizontally along the doors, in line with the door handles. Take it easy. You can do this installation by yourself. It's not like you are trying to defuse a bomb or anything. Just take your time. Here is a thread to help you out. Good luck.:29:

Check this out: http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...sm+installation

And, make sure to install your BSM's with the tips pointing in the right direction like my attached pics.
