Bright Chrome or Satin Chrome Side Steps? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have a 2004 MDX and want to add the side steps. I'm not sure which ones to get. I basically want the one that matches the door handles and overall trim of the MDX. Mine is silver but the handles have the chrome look to them. Does anyone have an opinion one way or another?

The dealership is asking for $625 for the set and $795 to install. How hard are these to install myself?

Thanks for your input.

Bright chrome. Get them from Tim (hondacuraworld.com). Install them yourself. Save $300. My $.02. :D

I 3rd the bright chrome (but I have them already-from Tim, so I might be a wee bit biased) :29: :31:

Thanks for the input....I was leaning that way too. I guess I need to know next is how hard are these to install them? Do I need a special kit?

Thanks. B

You can find the installation instruction at hondacuraworld.com: https://hondacuraworld.hostasaurus....x/SideSteps.pdf.

Looks easy enough....:D

Last question...I went to the hondacuraworld site and saw their prices and free shipping. I found another site autowebaccessories.com that had cheaper prices but their shipping was a little more. Even so they'd be a little cheaper then hondacuraworld.

Just wanted to know if they price match or if you have dealt with them and recommend them.

Thanks!

You should contact Tim. Sometimes he does group buys and you can get them even cheaper. :4:

Bez2,

Would you consider buying chrome Manik Side Steps? I'm thinking of selling mine.
Bez2
Again...thanks for the information. I had to look at the bottom line. Some sites offer lower prices but shipping costs more and vice versa.

For instance I want the cargo cover, cargo net and cargo tray. The cover is $16 cheaper atutoweb. The tray is $10 cheaper at autoweb...the shipping is $21 for me vs. $4 with Tim's site. So overall it comes out to be $10 difference.

I did send Tim an email. But after what I've read I'd like to order from him. I'm glad I checked because my dealer's prices where way up there...no suprised. I'd save about $60 on those 3 parts by not going to my dealer. And if you add the side-steps that's another $135 saved.

Now I just need to get a torque wrench...

The tray is on special this month with Tim for $90. You have to click on specials and then Feb. acuramdx.org special to get the discounted price. Mine's coming tomorrow.

From what I understand you will need 1 beer drinking buddy to help you hold the sidesteps at install.

Thanks NG...I think I'll get it too.

Another question (I know I said this was my last..lol)....are the holes that the side-bars mount to already drilled under my truck? Meaning they are ready for me just to screw the side-bars too?

Thanks.

Yes they are. Have fun with the install, then post some pics. :4:

I have a taffeta white 2004 MDX. I bought it last June and they had another one in the showroom with the bright chrome sidesteps. I am about six feet tall and I was not real happy about getting in and out because I really didn’t need them and when stepping over them to get in I would brush my leg. I was being practical and thinking great, I could get dirt and rain water on my pant’s leg. So I was able to remain rational and just get the rear spoiler. Well after six months I am happy to report that for me, form won out over function and last week I order the sidesteps and installed them. Now I don’t have to listen to my MDX begging me to add that extra bling. They just look so good next to the Acura MDX chrome wheels and balance the chrome door handles which indirectly returns the universe to its proper balance. The install is very easy… especially if you have an air impact socket wrench… which I have. I also have a torque wrench for piece of mind. The holes under the body are predrilled and threaded. The downside for those that do not have an air or electric wrench is that there are 24 bolts on the chassis along with I think 40 more in the support structures. Overall I would recommend that you save some money and install them yourself if you have the tools. Best of luck.

I took a look last night under the truck and see the pre-drilled holes that are closer to the middle of the truck. I do see the other pairs of hole sopposite of them but they appear to have a black, plastic cover over them. I guess these are to protect the holes from getting anything in them. IS there a easy why to pop those black plastic covers off or should a careful use of the screwdriver do the trick?

Thanks.

On those plastic clips, you should be able to punch the center piece up and then they pretty much fall out. You may need a screwdriver or needle nose pliers to punch the center piece. Look here...

Again phins2rt ...thanks alot for all the good information. And thanks to everyone else who responded too. I'm going to order all of this today.

I sent Tim an email about the price match and he got back to me. I'll probably order from him today.

Thanks.

B

PS. I'll post some pics after I'm done. I'm no means a gear head but I will take alot of pride installing these myself and not get screwed my dealership! :D

Based on all the good comments here, I plan on mail-ordering the chrome steps soon. Does it require that the vehicle be jacked up to install them, or can it be done by just laying down beside it on the cold garage floor?

Dr Ken,
No jack needed! Good luck!

I just replace my Manik chrome side steps for the factory side steps over the weekend. Fairly easy job with the right tools. I mounted the bars by myself in less than an hour. This is probably from having experience mounting the Manik bars.

Good thing I have two wratchet sets at home...one wrench for holding the nuts, the other for tightening (3/8" drives). You'll need 2-13mm sockets (unless you have a 13mm socket wrench). It'll also be easier if you have a 6" extension to mount the raised section of the mounting brackets to the holes covered by the pastic plugs.

Once I had the brackets on the car, I just sat down with my legs stretched out underneat the car, placed the side step on my legs and raised it to meet the brackets. The steps are fairly light.

Hope this helps. Good luck Bez2 and Dr. Ken.

Hey buddy, which type did you get?
MDXtacy
Hey Pisay87. I got the OEM chrome side steps. I think I told you before that I was considering getting the black ones to go with my stealth theme but the chrome looks classy.
