I wanted to get some feedback on which SF Bay Area dealers owners have brought their MDX's to for the tranny recall.

Did they provide a loaner?
Did you have more problems from with the car after you got it back?

I'm more interested in hearing about Serramonte Acura and Mike Harvey, since they are closest to me, but I'm sure any info anyone has here will be useful to other members.

Thanks for your help.

Received the recall notice a while ago, but have not done it yet. The tranny works fine, so I will procrastinate a while longer (at least until the MDX is a little closer to the end of warranty).

I'd imagine, the longer you waited the more you stress your tranny. In case that's not enough you should do it soon just in case of total failure and you got stuck.

I took my '02 in to Hopkins Acura in Redwood City last June to have the oil jet kit installed and to check out some shudder/slipping at around 20-35 mph.

They did provide a loaner for the recall work. They also replaced my EGR valve. The problems disappeared until recently when my check engine and VTM-4 lights went on, and I had a stall at stop light. (This is 10k later). They ran the codes and got P0505 and replaced the throttle body. I've got another post about it under "Problems".

Basically, their policy on loaners as I understand it is: Yes for recall work, yes for warranty work after the first day, and no for service. May be different if you buy from them. They do have a shuttle.

Hope this helps.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I dropped my car off at Serramonte Acura this morning. They didn't provide me with a loaner, but did shuttle me to BART. I will post feedback on the service after I pick up the car.

Glad it was helpful, sorry it wasn't a little sooner. BTW, they didn't offer me a loaner on the first go 'round. They said Honda wouldn't cover it, so I called Honda in a huff who said "Of course we'll cover it", who then called the dealer, who then agreed to give me a loaner. Had to do a bit of dancing.

My husband drives a Lexus and I always get pushed out of shape when he takes it in for service and they roll out their version of 'the red carpet'. I have to say, it stretches alot further than Acura's. He gets a loaner no matter what, and he bought his car off lease, out of state, for about half what mine cost. I halfway think they'd drive him to the moon and back if they thought it would make him a happy customer. But hey, I'm not jealous or anything.

I no longer go to Serramonte for service, but when I did, they always gave me a loaner if the service was expensive, or was going to take over night. When they replaced my tranny (not recall - look at my other posts on this subject), I had a loaner for a day or two. They have an Enterprise Rent a Car right there in the shop as I recall. If you press them, you can often get a loaner. It may have helped that I bought my MDX there and up until I stopped going there late last year, I'd had all my service done by them.

FWIW, I've been happy with using Honda Hospital in San Mateo for service lately. The owner has an MDX and they seem to always come in right on the money with their estimates. Its not cheap, but seems a better deal than Serramonte who like to charge $80-90 for a glorified oil change.
