Just took delivery of our new X this week! Hoping to get advice about what initial programming I should do in the nav system. If there's a thread on this could someone point it out to me? Thanks.

I'd recommend doing two things at the minimum-

Program your home address - this allows you to just say "Go Home" from wherever you are and it will route you without having to hit any buttons. You may want to program other frequent addresses as well.

Go thru the Display/Nav voice command listing on the info screen. This gets you familiar with which commands you don't have to type in.

You can set your NAV display to AUTO so when you or the MDX turns the headlights on your NAV switches to NIGHT mode.

If you do set the NAV to AUTO you will find the following voice commands valuable when it rains because if it rains during the day and you turn your lights on, the NAV display will switch to NIGHT mode. You can't see a thing on the NAV in NIGHT mode during the day.

(Display Setup) displays the setup menu
then
(Display Day) or (Display Auto) to switch between DAY and AUTO mode

I have an 04 MDX and I'm curious how you can tell if you have the latest Map DVD. How much do they cost??

One additional thing you just might want to consider for security reasons - never program your NAV system to go completely to your own home address!!

In the event someone were able to steal your MDX, this prevents the theif from not only stealing your car, but driving it directly to your house, where they just might find that nobody's home.

Ours is programmed to get us to the local grammar school that is about 1-2 miles away from our house. This is close enough for a relative who isn't familiar with the area to get themselves the rest of the way, but far enough so that they won't find my house by driving down the street and pressing the garage door opener.

Just a thought ...

Look under your passenger seat for the DVD system, push the eject button and look at the version number on the DVD. The latest version is 3.40, costs $185 + tax and shipping, and is probably not worth it for you (search for the other threads comparing the differences).

I'm not sure about the '04 but the other way to check the version is to go to Setup and somewhere in the submenus you will find the version number.

Isn't this on your registration and insurance anyway?

If you use your home address ("Go Home") remember to password protect it.

If someone steals your X, I recommend calling the police. It's a pretty effective technique. Besides, if they break into your house, it just adds another way for them to get caught. Should make vehicle recovery fairly simple.
