| Quick question: Has anyone here hacked the power supply or power section of any Alesis box to adapt it for car use? Please let me know. Thanks. |

Might want to try a car audio forum -- though as they make studio/stage type equipment I really don't know why you want/need that stuff in a vehicle.
Have you tried just running it off an inverter?
The inputs/outputs on most the Alesis stuff I've seen are not RCA plug, but either 1/4" plugs or XLR... |

There're a couple of car audio experts here and I thought somebody must have done something like this and know which components to rip out and then stuff in the other parts. It is indeed that Alesis company but not a digital equalizer that I'm thinking. I was thinking of the PicoVerb to add a little bit of ambience or 3D effects. Yeah I know - I'm messing up the pure music but that's ok - can always switch it off or tone it down until it's only slightly noticeable. There are other ways to get some ambience or 3D, but as usual, I'll have to pick the difficult way:D
I tried a few sites recently and found some general info (it can be done!) One person wrote/mentioned to probe the voltages on the board/components near the 9V-AC input connector and that's what I may have to do later (followed by voiding the warranty!!) I prefer not to use an AC inverter for two reasons... I'll have to deduct points for this install but the main reason is actually noise from an inverter. Worst case I may do this but my first choice is not to use a 110V-AC inverter. Also haven't bought the Alesis box yet but still checking/thinking. From previous experience, the 1/4" connector shouldn't be a problem because musical instruments such as the Yamaha DX (long ago) and the other MIDI keyboards have these and the audio signals are compatible (just physically different connectors). Now is to figure out how to power this box and then it'll go right in. |

It's not high end, but Pryamind does makea 10 band EG with Reverb.
Zapco has been promising all-digital reverb/parametric EQ and other magic from the DSP6-SL.
RockfordFosgate continues to show their "symmetry" line of interconnected modules that might also offer reverb as well as other signal processing.
If you want something really neat check out the Alpine PXA-H700
Good Luck! |

| Huh?? Pyramid??! You kidding?:D The Fosgate Symmetry stuff is still around? I remember these from 10 or 12 years ago. The new Alpine will be overkill. I had a Sony ES box with similar features (time alignment, digital EQ, etc) in the past. All those went away along with the car. Actually the old Sony had less features since it's old school stuff - no Dolby/etc stuff back then. The new Alpine is a remarkably nice box/system, has many great features (overkill actually), and probably too expensive for what I'm doing. My wife already said all the accessories must not cost as much as the actual vehicle:) Latest update is Alesis will provide the service manual with circuit/schematic for $30 plus $3 shipping. Dunno yet - still thinking about everything. Murphy's Law says I'll need this service manual sooner or later to fix whatever I mess up in there... |
