"I remember drinking CokeŽ on my way home from school in San Antonio, Texas. I got a quarter a day for bus fare and a Coke. The year was 1957. A Coke was 5 cents out of a machine. It sure tasted good on a hot day."

I remembered I paid $2200 for an Apple 2e in the early 80's (with printer, monitor and duo-drive or whatever they called that floppy-drive thing). And it was like a 1 MHz thing!!!
Also remembered I paid $300 for an 63 MB RLL HDD (that's megabyte - not gigabyte). That was mid 80's. It's 6,400 times cheaper today. |

| I remember paying $1,000.00 for my first VCR in 1979. It was a two piece set by Sony, and the piece with the tape player in it was a "pop-up" tape deck. |

In early 90's someone donated me same VCR, it was Panasonic, but it was two pieces with pop-up tape deck! That thing worked with a rubber band on the internal wheel! I was wondering when it was made, now I know! Thanks.

In 1983 the company I worked for bought a computer for my office. It was an IBM, can't remember the model, but it had a 5 1/2" floppy, no hard drive, and it cost $7000. The first time I tried to input P & L's using Lotus123 for the 32 stores I supervised it ran out of RAM. Had to upgrade with additional memory and 128K (I think, not sure) of additional RAM cost $700.
I also remember paying 25 Cents for a gallon of gas in the mid 60's during a gas price war. |

How about $2.25 a minute for calls to Russia in early 90-es. Now... heh... about 15 cents a minute with local phone provider and less then 10 cents, if you buy a prepaid card. But that's not all. If you call Moscow in particular, it's 3.9 cents with prepaid card. So, it's actually cheaper to call Moscow from Chicago, then to call New York!
That's what Internet have done to costs of communications. :p |

$12 for a 1979 Ford Fiesta in 1993 :2:
Somebody left it for dead in front of the auto parts store I worked for, and $12 was all I had. I said it as a joke, but just $12 later, I had the title in my hand!
All I did was tighten down the bowl on the fuel pump, and she fired right up! Started with a screwdriver, it made an ABRUPT right hand turn if you let go of the wheel. No heat, no muffler. Drove it on a friend's dealer plate for a week, then crashed it into a snow bank when it became low on gas. Sold it for $50 to a shop I knew. Still have a Polaroid of that whipped puppy :D
Then there was my $43 1988 Pontiac Lemans, but that was another story :4: |
