I had the tranny replace on my 2001 MDX at 55k, no charge even though I was 5k past the warranty.
I'm now have 34k on the replacement transmission and its starting to slip.
Does anyone know Acura's current warranty policy on replaced transmissions? |

perkdan,
I believe it is 12 months/12000 miles. That is info from a TL forum. |

Thanks Phins,
I saw another post that stated 3/36k, but didn't sound 100% sure.
Noticed you mentioned a TL site. Can you provide a link to this?
I was considering a used 2003 TL, but obviously concerned about the transmission problems with the older TLs as well. |

Here you go. I think you might be scared of the TL after reading how frequently (or so it would seem from this site) the trannies blow up. I just had our 01 TL with 38K miles in for the tranny recall and they said everything looked ok. Good luck!

| I was told 36K mi and am thinking about it now, my '01 X has 130K. Is it worth the $4300 or is it just going to go out again? |

Replacement of an item under warranty usually does not extend any warranty past the original period. If your xmission was replaced free at 55k I would not expect any further warranty coverage.

Here is what I pulled from the warranty section on Owner's Link:
"Is there any warranty on parts that I pay for at my Acura dealer?
Yes. Acura Genuine Parts are covered by a Replacement Parts Limited Warranty. If these parts are installed by an Acura dealer, both the parts and labor are covered for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If the Genuine Acura parts are purchased from an Acura dealer and installed elsewhere, the parts themselves are covered for 12 months."
Now technically since the tranny may be a warranty item and not "purchased", it would be interesting to see what Acura says about this. |

kchawav,
Is $4,300 number an actual Acura quote for a new tranny installed on an 01? |

Probably $2700 for the tranny, the rest for labor.
Not a bad deal. Buy an used MDX with a bad transmission for 10 grand and slap in a rebuilt for under 5! Probably save 5000 in the deal over buying a used MDX where the tranny might break anytime. |

perkdan It is my understanding that some are on their
3rd transmission. My Regional Manager said
that if I would accept a new tranny at
present 30,500 miles and it should do it
again, they would then discuss a new car. It
is a safety issue for me as mine did it when
attempting to enter freeway and merge into
traffic. I am not taking any chances, have
not driven car since. Waiting for us to reach
settlement. Working with Better Business
Bureau Auto Line. |
