Hi all,

We have a 2004 MDX Premium and are thinking about adding some audio or video items to it. I'd like better sound, though I don't want to spend over $150. I was thinking of getting speakers (what kind is the best? any suggestions or brands for somebody on a budget?) from Best Buy for around $50/pair and installing them myself into the doors. Since this is the base ////Alpine audio system, should I get an amplifier? I could spend more, but I'd probably have to get it professionally installed since I don't think I could do what you all have done, even though many members courteously posted instructions and pictures.

Option 2 is to add a DVD entertainment system to the car. I'm a little worried about this because of the side-curtain airbags. Will Best Buy or any other store be able to install the overhead monitor since we have side-curtains on the car? Also, how much would this installation typically cost, and how much would an installation for the speakers and amp cost? Please help!

I was thinking of getting this Sony one for $650. What do you all think? Also, where would they install the DVD player? What's the best spot?

Or this Liquid Video system from Circuit City for $450 with free installation.

Or this Blaupunkt from Fry's Electronics (Outpost.com) for $300.

And for speakers, I was thinking of either these Pioneers...

...or these Duals...

Would those two speakers make any difference in my MDX Premium's ////Alpine system? Does anybody know any other speaker brands or places that sell speakers for around the price of those two?

RC,
You could always upgrade the speakers (can be a cheap, easy DIY project) and then see how you like it. I would recommend an amp but that doesn't look to be in your budget. Do a search on infinity. A lot of members would recommend the infinity's for a simple speaker swap. A little bit more than the other choices you have but a very good bang for the buck speaker. This thread may help:

Good luck!
