65 here in NJ today. High of 42 tomorrow with snow/rain showers and Friday we're getting more snow but they aren't predicting amounts yet.
I don't mind because I'm not done my indoor winter projects yet anyway. You reminded me I have to schedule the pool opening for late April and the pool tile guy for mid-may. |

Wow. When it really does reach 100, I will drive to your house and do a cannon ball in your pool!
It was pretty hot in Fairfield CA today too.......but here's what I noticed: Massive amounts of pollen. I washed my X 1st thing this morning, and now there is a "nice" coating of yellow all over it. |

The colors are awesome this year. I love the ice plants when they bloom. I wish they bloomed more than once a year. I saw some amazing purples and other colors on my way to work today (peninsula).
I'm impressed you grow your own chokes. I just buy them at Costco and cook them. There's an awesome balsamic vinagraitte they sell at Draegers that I use as a dipping sauce. I believe Teatro is the brand. It costs about $9/bottle, but its great for dipping chokes. I've never grilled them. Tell me the recipe. PM or post it. I should try that.
Anyone here ever use a Kamado grill? I'm considering buying one. The company moved from Sacramento to Mexico so now I have to pay shipping, but they are awesome grills. |

Kamado, aren't they the smokers from Asia originally ? Don't they look like big bongs ? Sorry, but that is what they appeared to me as.....www.kamado.com ? Yes this is the site. I almost bought one, but decided to go with Pitts and Spitts smokers ! The kamado's are gorgeous but not that large when it comes to smoking for large amounts of folks......
Chokes:
Cut them from bottom of stem to top (split in half), put them in large ziplock bag, put your favorite balslamic vinegar and a little salt, but I use Tony's instead of plain salt.....leave in bag for a few hours, then grill them on a hot grill for 20 min. or so and you should be able to eat all but the entire choke. Small one's are better !
Here is a shot of my famous Pitts and Spitts grill in action last summer. Time to crank her up soon ! |

I spent a week in San Francisco in early March, with an overnighter to Carmel. The flowers were not yet in full bloom. Lived in San Jose in mid 60's and always enjoyed the flowering vegetation in that area. Here is Florida we do not get all the beautiful flowere that the bay area has. That is the only thing that I miss about California.

G. Colton:
Hard for me to believe you ONLY miss the veggies in California and not the FLAWLESS WEATHER, LOW HUMIDITY and warm weather most of the time. I was born and raised in Louisiana, you can have that god nasty humidity and wet nasty winters in Florida, Miss, ala, La and texas......I don't miss that at all .........florida is an exception to cold, but TOO HUMID for me ! And lets not forget those annoying New Yak/Jursey accients either !!! :2: :2: |

I certainly agree on the problem of the Blue Hairs. However, I prefer the more humid weather. My sinuses act up when it gets too dry. Actually it was too cool for my taste in San Jose. I found that it was uncomfortable to drive with the top down as the sun got lower in the sky. My house faced West so the patio did not get late afternoon sun and that minimized the time it could be used. I never went into San Francisco without taking a jacket regardless of the time of the year. Otherwise the weather was/is good.
We certainly had good food while there. Magnificent Claimari in Monterey. Was also lucky enough to drive from Half Moon Bay on down the coast during the very high wave period. They called a Maverick for the next day.

| G. colton: My sister flew into SFO in early May. I picked her up, ate lunch at Voigner in San Mateo then drove the RL to woodside on to the ocean and back to the city on Hwy 1. It too was gorgeous, but she said the flowers from the airplane as it flew over California was drop dead gorgeous ! I do like the warmer weather, as one reason I moved out of the city after 11 years of fog etc...Antioch is very warm during the Spring, Summer and Fall. When it warms up here, the bay area gets foggy and chilly. I like the "warm summer nights" ! |

That's some serious grill action!
I used my cousin's Kamado a few weeks ago and was amazed. What an awesome thing. I really want one now, but $ are tight, so its going to have to wait.
Thanks for the choke tips. I'll give that a try soon. I bought some purple artichokes at Whole Pay Check (aka Whole Foods) the other day. I need to cook them before they go off. I'd never seen purple artichokes before. I'm wondering what they taste like. |

My chokes have purple at the bottom of the leaves/choke. Have you every tried dipping the leaves in plain ole mayo ?
Perhaps if we plan a MBP bay area meet at my place, I make my famous Cajun Louisiana Smoked Turkey Andouille Sausage gumbo ! |
