Swap touring head unit into base MDX? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Is it possible (has anyone ever tried) putting a head unit from a 2001 no-navi touring model (with 6-disc changer) into a base 2001 MDX (no navi)?

Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to do this? I like the idea of having a stock-looking controller and I like the built-in 6-disc. Plus I heard that the 2001 HU is an Alpine (is this true?) and not Bose.

If any of this is possible, where could I get a 2001 HU for a reasonable price?

I am sure it could be done, but you would need the amp as well. The Bose HU is pre amp only. BTW, Bose doesn't make any HU., they just put their name on them.

What about the 6cd+tape combo from the TL or the Jap MDX?

Not entirely sure, but most of the Acura units above the base include amps. The TL deck uses outboard amp, and would not simply drop in to the dash.

So are all touring HUs Bose for each year model? I know the Bose system is no good, but is it possible to use my own external amps and speakers with the stock touring HU (assuming it is Bose)? How many sets of preamps are there? Are there any aux. inputs?
