Hello all,

Here is what I want to do, I really want XM and Bluetooth, but I am too cheap to trade up. I currently have Navi/RES and have not modified it yet.

So, I have looked at the part lists for the 2005 and the 2003, From what I can tell, the difference is 1. RAdio, 2. Xm box, 3. Tele box. Plus wires for the XM and Tele. It seems to me that if I get a 2005 radio, I should be able to almost plug and play the radio, add the XM, bluetooth, run wires to those factory items, then turn it on and enjoy.

Please, I am looking for REASONS why I can not do this. I want to make sure before I order the radio.

Thanks,
renov8r
It's all in the wirirg harness -- you cannot "plug and play". The 03 wiring harness is quite a bit different. The lines from the Navi back to the sensors are changed in the harness as well as the additional option switch lines from the steering column and the BT mod. The instruement cluster harness changed to. Throw in the changes to the radio connectors themselves and now you have basically every wire in the cokpit to re-do, except maybe the glove compartment line...

I am not saying it can't be done, but it is not plug and play.

It just makes more sense to trade up -- your 03 probably is still in warranty, so you can probably expect a very healthy trade (or private sale). You will get the all the upgrades to the exhuast, motor, dash, interior lighting, navi AND radio PLUS have a brand new vehicle with full warranty. (consider that even if you did a PERFECT job re-wiring the new radio into the old 03 any dealer would FREAK if you ever asked about in-warranty electrical work or even service on anything you changed -- ditto at trade-in time...) Depending on how much you financed the 03 for payments might be only a few bucks more...

Thanks, I think it is now time to talk to the bank and go take a look at the local dealer to see if it really is a must have.

Thanks again, you helped me decide.
