| A friend of mine is moving to Portugal and posed the question to me. I don't see why he couldn't receive service. |

| There are receiver licensing agreements for only the states. And the orbit is specific for full coverage in North America. At least that's my understanding. |

That's the way I understand it too. The sats would just remain over the continental US which is why AK and HI aren't covered.
TV must be different. My neighbors are able to get Russian satellite TV. The dish just points more SE than the American one which is south. |

| This question is really funny to me. Reminds me of when I immigrated here, questions like "do they have T.V. in Scotland?" Obviously they never heard of John Logie Baird. Anyway, they do have satelite TV in the UK and on the continent. It is humorous though to see the small dishes hanging onto the side of old buildings and such. Sky Sports is a favourite channel. I've even got it here. :4: |

Satellite radio (XM) is for the continental US only. We can't even get it here. Your friend will likely get CNN and whatever other programming the local cable company picks up. When I was in Bermuda last year, I watched the Rochester (!), NY CBS affiliate and the Boston NBC (I think) affiliate. Here in Calgary, I can watch NBC, ABC, PBS, CBS, and FOX from the Spokane affiliates, plus, with a digital cable box, I can watch the same netwroks fed from Detroit, which means I can watch them 3 hours earlier! That's because my local cable company picks up these feeds. |
