| Believe it or not, I just made the change to synthetic oil. Since I moved out farther on the Island, I doing much more miles now and the 3000 mile oil change is to soon. 1st I thought I would just use conventional and push it to 5000 miles but I noticed the oil looked very dirty. So now I'm going to try the 7,500-10,000 miles using the Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil. I did notice that the gas mileage did go up at least 3-4 MPG. The engine feels a little more powerful off the line, might just be in my head not sure yet. Hope it pays off in the end especially because I'm at 66,000 miles now. |

I'm a big fan of Mobil 1 oil. I don't go further than 5,000 to 6,000 miles between changes.
I used Mobil 1 in my Chevrolet Tahoe and got a couple extra miles per gallon over conventional oil. Also Mobil 1 would hold very good oil pressure in the Texas summer heat even with 5,000 miles on it. With conventional oil, my oil pressure would drop in the August heat after only a few thousand miles on the oil. |

I would only push the 10,000 if you perform a used oil analysis and the oil is holding up. I would go 5,000 to 7,500 depending on the driving conditions (short trip or long trips).
Mobile 1 has just come out with a Mobil 1 Extended which they state 1 year or 15K, but I think I'm going to stay away from that and stick with the M1 SuperSyn until they can get the Extended version GF-4 approved (meeting the starburst) which some suspect may be due to the additives and the amount of additives that they put in. I'm sure its a great oil, but I have a mental block off driving oil past 7,500 miles. |

I have been using the synthetics over 25 years. In the bigger displacement US engined cars I have found that 10,000 to 12,000 is good interval for oil change. It is usyally good to change the filter at about the half-way point. In these more highly tuned and stressed engines it may be good to change oil more often.

The way I look it at it, even with a good synthetic, it's better to maintain a conservative interval, let's say between 5 and 7K. And if you do go over you have some assurance you have some margin left. I feel more comfortable doing that than going over 7500 miles on a regular basis, which could potentially compromise my warranty. |

Wow...I have been using Mobil 1 for years in several different vehicles and NEVER had that much of a mileage increase! Actually I didn't have much of an increase in MPG at all. You must be the man! |

Can you expand on this - did your avg MPG increase ? Maybe your commute changed to more highway & less city driving which is accounting for your MPG increase. What was your MPG prior as opposed to now ? I avg apprx 18 mpg on 65/35 (hiway/city) driving and can't imagine getting over 20 with just a switch to synth oil . . . |

In years past I have noticed a small increase in gas mileage. Once maybe as much as 1 or 2 mpg. Certainly never anything noticable from the seat of the pants. Did not notice any change on the MDX.
Was looking as 5 series BMX sedans today. They are using systhetic and recommending once a year oil changes.

I am sure their service interval requirements would reflect that recommendation. |
