while taking my girlfriend to Honda dealer today to look at her lovely Honda Jazz, i had a chance to look at the new MDX and CRV. From previous articles it stated that 05 CRV now has same dimension of brake rotors as the MDX. what i found strange was the position of calipers positioned in the front brakes. for MDX, the caliper is sitting at the front part of the rotor like other Honda vehicles. however on the 05 CRV, i noticed that its front calipers are sitting at the rear of the front calipers like the BMWs and SUBARU's....
Which seems like one is pushing the car to stop, and one is pulling back the car to stop.....
So just wondering that which has bigger force while in braking situation?:D |

The position of the caliper had no bearing on the stopping power. The caliper "squeezes" the rotor between two brake pads. It makes no difference on the rotor where this force is applied. It is neither pushing nor pulling.

| I remember seeing some Jazz car when I was in Japan. It reminded me of the US Scion Xb......basically a micro car. |

| I saw the US CR-V has 11.8" vented up front, and 12" solid disc in back. I don't recall the MDX sizes. |

It's 300mm fronts (vented), and 302mm rear (solid):2: |

300 millimeter = 11.8110236 inch [international, U.S.]
302 millimeter = 11.8897638 inch [international, U.S.] |

Now, i do not know if this is true or not...but BMW CLAIMS that brake calipers on the rear part of the disc helps in cooling the pads. Of course, in a SUV, this is a none issue unless you track your SUV.
Anyone know anymore about this?? |
