Sounds dumb, but I just can't seem to locate any Mobil1 Oil Filters - tried all the local chain stores, Pep Boys, Kragen, Autozone, Chief, Checker, NAPA.
Internet searches only result in Amsoil websites.

Anybody use the M-105 in SoCal?

Thanks if you can help me locate a seller.

Here's a site I found: http://www.autobarn.net/mob1higefoil.html

You can find them at http://www.autozone.com as well.

Does anybody know where I can buy the new Mobil 1 15,000 motor oil (extended performance)? I don't see it at AutoBarn.com or Autozone.com. I haven't been to Walmart or auto part stores yet.

I've seen an ad for it, but haven't found it either. Costco and Sam's Club don't have it yet. Probably the first place to get it will be a Mobil station. I wonder what makes it a "15,000" mile oil, when the standard Mobil 1 is a "7,500" mile oil?

I guess you pick the one that fits your interval. But if you are still confused like many us, do nothing. Just keep using what you have and change it the same way.

My guess, to get the 3000 mile changers to change theirs at 5000 (and convert to synthetic).

Get the 5000 miles changers (like many of us) to buy the 7500 mile oil, to extend our intervals, or just think we are getting more margin.

And so on....hoping in the end, they can stop producing the standard Mobil 1 that most folks change at normal intervals. I guess they just find that too boring.

Very interesting this "Oil Change interval", back when I was very young--about 50 years ago, we used to change oil (30 weight) every 2,000 miles. Now with the synthetics, we can easily go much, much longer, but some of our old biases (and concerns) still remain. The MDX manual says change oil every 7,500 miles and change the filter every 15,000 miles. And those intervals are with regular Dino oil. For "Severe" driving Oil and filter changes go down to 3,750 miles.

My Porsche Boxster has an oil change interval of 15,000 miles and filter every 30,000 miles--but it has about 9.3 quart capacity and specifies Synthetic Oil (Mobil 1 recommended).

Some professional believe that an oil filter works better, to filter smaller particles, after it has been used for a while and the bigger holes have been filled--interesting.

Their website claim higher TBN. I.E., more additives available for consumption/depletion, therefore longer use. They are probably responding to Amsoil's marketing of their 25,000 mile oils.

I did find a single Mobil1 filter in 104 size at the local Pep Boys yesterday, was just setup and the employee said shipment of filters will disappear in a week and they don't know how often they will get them. Then I decided on Fram's Extended Guard instead for 7,200 specification. Both about $11 or $12. Not cheap, but I've switched to Mobil1 Extended and will go the full distance each time. I'll get a sample analyzed when changing it out and will post the results summary.

Not so fast sonny! :14:

When I was your age and the earth was still flat, my first car (a '37 Pontiac with a crank start hole in the grill) only needed its oil changed when it was so black, thick and gritty that the dipstick was hard to pull out. The other sign that it was time to change the 30 weight was that the filler/vent cap (remember those?) belched foul smelling smoke and was totally crudded with slimy white goop. This happened about every 30,000 miles. At 15 cents a quart, I changed the oil for about one dollar. I'm proud to say that car lasted 33 years and 245,000 miles before I put it up on blocks in the back yard. They sure knew how to make 'em then. :29:

Thanks for the Nostalgic trip. I remember very well. I had a '39 Packard 120 (Straight Six), fortunatly I never had to change oil--it just burned it. Everytime I went in for gas (19 9/10 per gallon), I had to add 2 quarts of Oil. I finally got to using so much oil, I couldn't use 30 weight anymore, so I started mixing it with 90 wt transmission lube. The car finally died.

And for those that aren't old enough I offer this thought, "Nostalgia isn't what it used to be!"

At 14 I was given a 1949 Chevy truck to drive on the pastures. When I was 16 I was given a 1961 Plymouth Valiant with a slant 6 the was BULLET PROOF. Anyone remember those engines ?
I guess you could guess my age ?
My father's father who was a big time surgeon in New Orleans had a custom built 1928 Lincoln. My dad told me he remembered when he was young riding in that monster ! He is 76 years old today..... He said a guy in Norco Louisiana has it "garaged" and must be worth a fortune ! My Dad's sister killed someone that step off the bus on Airline highway and walked in front of her. All he remembers is the lady sliding across the "long" narrow hood. They got rid of it cause my aunt Margaret could not look at the car anymore ! He said it was custom built for my grandfather and it was gorgeous !
ok off the box....

I just got my oil and filter done at Acura this morning, first one for my X at 3,800 miles. Didn't change to synthetic because I have been using normal oil for all my cars with never a problem with an engine. My 94 Legend has 173,000 miles and I get the oil changed with 5-30 every 5,000 miles. I will get mine next service done when I go another 5,000 miles, just like I have been doing for the last 30 years or so.

I called the local walmart and they have the complete line of Mobil 1 oil and filters in stock. The 15,000 mile extended performance oil is $5.36 a quart.

I've decided to take the plunge for the third time and convert to synthetic. The first two times I switched to synthetic were for my car, then motorcycle, about 15-20 years ago. Both vehicles, which had not used any oil prior, immediately began using a quart every few thousand miles. Most folks agreed with me that synthetic was just too thin and it had simply dripped out of the engines, or burned. I swore that I would never again attempt synthetic. But crazy me, I'm going to listen to some of the folks on this board who assure me that synthetic is much improved recently and will no longer cause an engine to start using oil. We'll see.
