Okay, my Cabo trip at the end of May is becoming a little more expensive than I wanted it to be, so I've decided to check out Florida instead.
I've done a little research, but I am still confused. I was wondering if anybody had any advise on which beach to stay at. My idea of a vacation is shopping, sitting at the beach or pool during the day and enjoying the nightlife at night.
I was looking at West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. I was considering staying at the Holiday Inn Oceanside at West Palm Beach, but I thought I would ask the board first.
Thanks in advance. |

I think you will be disappointed by the location.
The "real" Palm Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean and there is pretty much no public access to the water. West Palm is on the "intercostal" which by West Palm is kinda funky -- it is fine place to moor a boat, but not much else. Similarly "shopping" in Palm Beach is pretty much impossible unless you have a Trump sized bankroll -- it is the Rodeo Drive of Atlantic Coast.
There are some restuarants, but they have tended to be the "Judge Shales" kind of places, unless your parents have a huge "Kennedy-size" estate -- jackets required to keep out the riff raff.
You can't really compare Cabo to any of the places on the Atlantic side of Florida, except for may be the Keyes...
On the Gulf side there are some remnents of the "old style" fishing coast, but mostly there are miles & miles of retirement Villages.
I would not book anything unless you get a personal endorsement from someone ...
Good Luck! |

There is a lot of public beach within the city limits of Palm Beach (not WPB as renov8r noted). If I understand the the Holiday Inn that you are talking about it is oceanside on the south side of town on A1A. Actually it is within Palm Beach city limits. There is a public park just north of this motel and the Lake Worth city public beach/pier is just south of it. Across from the pier is a place I recommend for breakfast. The entire downtown Palm Beach beach area is public beach. You just park on A!A, pay the meter and walk down the stairs.
The Taboo Room on Worth Avenue is a fun evening. Not as stuffy as you would think. Worth Avenue is an enjoyable place to "look" but tends to only have the upper crust stores..
All along the coast there are many fine restaurants going from the Jupiter area on south. An evening down to South Beach in Miami would be fun.
Haven't spent much time there in many, many years but I think you could enjoy it. A little quieter than Miami/South Beach, but that is what I prefer.
