Who and why? Those threads were to be closed to reduce the strain on disk space and backup times, but not completely obliterated. At least that was my understanding based on admin's post yesterday.

OK, consider yourself flamed.

No one twisted your arm to open the threads, as they were amply titled.

If it is truly a space issue, then there should be no issue with new similar threads.
Warzau
Im sure it was Daniel, mods lost the ability to delete threads since the deletegate last year. All I was ever able to do is lock thread, I couldn't even delete a post.

What he said. If this is an Acura MDX forum only, then we shouldn't have any threads on landscaping and turkey deep fryers either. They take up valuable space right?

Let me butt in..

Those threads are gone, it will be missed but I don't really care if its gone.

When those threads are active, as long as relevant question about MDX are answered and we get sensible discussions here, we get the job done.

As far as I read, it was deleted because of space issue so it is valid and needed if we want to continue this great community. I've been here for years and seen how the group discussion matures from discussion about MDX only to discussion of almost everything about MDX, MDX owner's tastes and life choices. That is one ingredient that will keep this group going.

So to keep that atmosphere here, why don't we keep the threads?

Hold on.

On the space issue, why don't the admin or the moderator or the software automatically delete older pictures say after 1 month? That will keep the backups manageable.

Flame away but we built brotherhood here. Those posts are still from MDX owners we know for a while.

First, let me state up front that everyone knows what I think about thread deletion. However I usually argue from the point of censorship and that is NOT the case here; so ...

I tend to agree; the Babes and Thongs in particular was getting out of hand (750 posts in two weeks, 150 in a few hours  ) All things in moderation.

True for the most part; every so often pics show up in other threads that are NOT amply labeled. IF we do allow such threads then I recommend that all such pics go into specially labeled threads ONLY.

Many other sites allow members a llimited amount of disk space for their own uploads. Uploading pics is allowed as long as a link is used OR the member has available space (e.g. www.infinitifx.org ). Members have a 5 MB Upload Quota at this site; if space is the major consideration (according to admin) then perhaps we could adopt a similar system.

Our brotherhood is in danger due to our diversity; what once was a strong camaraderie built around essentially MDX only related issues has suffered (in my opinion) due to an increased amount of contoversial topics such as war, politics, sexually oriented pics, etc.

A brotherhood yes. We are all drawn to acuramdx.org by our interest or ownership in the Acura MDX. It gets pretty dull after a while if we only discuss the MDX exclusively. That is why other off topic threads continue to keep us coming back. But who is to say we should allow threads about landscaping and turkey deep fryers and exclude the hottest thongs, hottest babes, and camel toe threads, or visa versa? To each his own. No one is holding a gun to your head to read anything that does not interest or offends anyone. Just read it or pass it by. The point is, we should be allowed to decide for ourselves what threads to read.:4:

Warzau
While I agree that we should decide what to read or pass up, the FINAL decision on the threads is the Admin this board like others online is not a true democracy, and I don't mean to say that in a contrite way.
EXCALIBUR
Warzau,

No, we do not have a true democracy on acuramdx.org or any online forum. admin does make the final decision. admin's reason for closing the hottest thongs, hottest threads, and camel toe threads was because of back up space, not because of content. It has been proposed that these threads be re-opened or allowed to exist alongside the other off topic threads...and have their pictures deleted on a monthly basis to preserve back up space. Make sense?
Warzau
You should read my post in the "other" thread re the same subject :)

Just my opinion, but I'm glad they're gone. They were sleaze that polluted this otherwise pretty classy web site.

It's not like there aren't thousands of other sites with that kind of content and much more. Now we can all surf this site without worrying about a boss, co-worker or family member asking "hey whats that site with the hottest babes, thongs, and camel toe threads?"

And for those of us with young children at home, it's certainly more family friendly. This is a "family SUV" site, not a sleazy hot rod site. Honestly, I have no problem with the content per se, but this is not an appropriate outlet for it. Why not start a new site for this content? That would be appropriate.

Interesting side note: I always found it ironic that during the ugly "political" era we all endured here a year or so ago, so many on this site were shouting family values and thumping the Bible so loudly that it was deafening. Yet nobody ever objected to this stuff?

OK, now it's time to flame me for my opinion, I guess. Go ahead.
Northern_MDX
I would prefer not to have those threads
on this site, for the following reasons:

1. This is one of the few sites both me and my wife visit.
(That is, the less babe I see here means the more babe I see in our room ;) )

2. I would prefer to be able to
view this site at work without worrying
it being mistaken as anything close to
a soft porn site.
(At work we have a very strict policy about
website browsing.. :( )

3. I hope this site would grow to become the #1 place people come to look for MDX related info. I am just thinking too much
of a babe flavour may steer away some
visitors who may have significant MDX related knowledge to share with us.

I didn't know what a "camel toe" was until I came upon this (former) thread. I always enjoyed it as a quick diversion when checking the site to learn/share info about my X. Please don't suggest if I'm really interested in such stuff to visit the many websites that specialize in porn, soft or otherwise. I'm just not THAT interested, BUT I did enjoy peeking at the threads on this site, from time-to-time.

As for making this a "family friendly" site, until you kid pays the bill to purchase his own MDX, GMAFB. Don't click on the thread if your kids are looking over your shoulder if you are that concerned about maintaining "family values". This might be a good time to talk with your kids about not pulling out your feeding tube when the time comes, but you might want to cancel your life insurance first. :9:

Your point are well taken but you are in control when you visit the site.
We should understand that this is a diverse group that matured enough bonded together by the same car.

It is my responsibility to make sure the pictures are not flashed on the screen on the wrong person.

Agreed. The issue about the Hottest Thongs, Hottest Babes Thread, and Camel Toe Thread is not about censorship or content. It is about space.

Warzau has proposed on a related thread:

Well, the issue here is not just space. It is both space and content. I myself find it difficult to read every thread when I'm at work for the reasons stated above.

As you may imagine I visit a lot of forums, and this is by far the best one out there. I would hate it to become an Adult site. Some of the stuff posted was just disgusting.

So here is what I propose. If there is enough demand out there I can create a separate site, something that will not get backed up, dedicated to thongs and other pieces of "clothing". The only problem here is censorship. I don't want to loose my server completely because someone decides to post something terribly wrong and someone else complains to my ISP. So if I get enough volunteers to review that site regularly (what a job would that be!) it could work.

And for the record, it was me who deleted the Camel Toe thread.

Thoughts?
crmsnidol
I don't think you'll have a shortage of volunteers from this board.

You're treading shaky ground with adult content and ISP's. They already tow a fine line between protecting the privacy of their customers and the legal obligation to keep child p0rn, and other internasties away. Good luck.

admin,

I'm in as a contributor. I propose The "No-Nips, No-Lips" rules should be enforced.:4:
Blackura
Dan, I think the separate site would be the better idea. As others have mentioned, I can't read the acuramdx.org site at work or even in my own family room at home because clicking on "view recent threads" brings up cameltoe, thongs, babes, etc. in addition to all the clean fun this site has to offer.

I'd hate to see what is easily the best vehicle owner site on the entire web become known more as an "X" site than and "MDX" site. And what a loss for us all if this site is shut down because of some lame nips/lips technical distinction.

Thank you, Dan, for taking the high road. Happy Easter!

Well then if its about Space and content, it's too late but welcome.
But to create another site? I don't think we need another site moderated by members from acuramdx.org.
Now we don't just have a tread about Thongs and Babes, we setup a dedicated website? We have enough of those in the internet.

Great. Who elected you king of the internet? Just because you dont like these threads, who do you think you are telling other members what they should or should not do?
Forcing your own morality upon others is wrong, stupid and really very dangerous. If there is content you dont like, then simply avoid it.

As for those of you who fear that someone may look over your shoulder and see the titles of the threads, get real. I dont think many employers would say its ok to read about MDX's on company time either.

I stand by what I wrote earlier that our "brotherhood" or camaraderie is built around the commonality of the MDX and is threatened by controversial side issues. :1: This isn't the first time and probably won't be the last time.

Regarding content, what if you made a separate place for it w/in Off Topics? Keep it strictly isolated from other more "family friendly" threads. Also have all moderators strictly enforce the "no-nips and no-lips" rule (a rule that was inititially proposed by me). Also consider banning members who post pics in inappropriate threads or who repeatedly violate the "content" rule. Such banning is routine on other sites by the way.

Finally will the sotware allow an Upload Quota for members? Other sites I belong to have a 5 MB Upload Quota; when a member reaches their limit they themselves must delete old files/pics before they can Upload again - in other words members must manage their own space.

PS: I voted against re-opening these threads; I do not post in them and only look on occasion; however in the spirit of compromise I offered the above.

While some of the contraversy of days gone by did not bring us closer together, I don't think it did any permanent damage. At least not to the 'core' group (you included of course) of MDX enthusiasts.

I think what did happen is the novelty of a new model SUV has worn off. Many of us were the first on our block to have an MDX. We all shared similar stories of dealerships, first problems, dealer prices on accessories, delivery times, etc. etc.

What we have now is not a bad thing, just not quite as much fun. This forum is now more in a 'maintenance & inform' mode. Most newer owners could never relate to the earlier problems some of us encountered.
But they are enjoying their purchase just the same, and are on here to share their experiences which are more relevant to other first-time owners.

The tone of the forum has changed, but it still offers a unique place for MDX owners of all kinds and in all places, to meet, discuss, and learn. And is that not what it has always been about anyway?

The MDX is the common denominator. How many times can we discuss VTM-Fluid changes? After that, it is the off-topic threads like the landscaping, turkey deep fryers, hottest thongs, etc. threads that keep us senior members interested in acuramdx.org.:4:

I agree, never said things were irreparably damaged. Part of "maintenance mode" involves shutting down out of control political threads and thongs threads. Perhaps self-maintenance is the answer. If we each have an Upload Quota then you can't have out-of-contol threads like we recently experienced. When a members quota is reached they get to decide what to delete and what to keep so as to make more space; offers a little accountability.

There were complaints when the Babes and Thongs Threads first got going. There were numerous complaints and discussions of porn and censorship - and for the record the group lost some female members. In an attempt to help resolve the controversy I proposed the "No-Nips and No-Lips" Policy (one I got from my kids Texas Tech Forums). As I recall TheWorm was one of the first moderators to accept this proposal as a rule and we moved on. But there was indeed early negative feedback.

PS: If I didn't care about this site or this group I'd have packed it in a long time ago - as it is I'm still here offering my 2 cents worth to keep it going. :1:
