Me and My Broken Ankle - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just know that everybody has been wondering what happened to shootist.
On 2/19 at 11:05 pm, I managed to journey from the top of my stairs to the bottom of my stairs in one, uncontrolled step. Spiral fractured my ankle and leg in four places. Had surgery, and four screws. On back, immobile for three weeks.
Would have like to have stayed home for the 6 or 7 weeks that my disability insurance approved, but my timing was too good- Three days before I took the header, I accepted a new job and promised to deliver myself in three weeks.
Can't step on the foot for three months- that's June, brother. Can't drive until I can walk. Been rolling into work last week on a Roll A Bout . It's either that or a wheelchair, and wheelchairs are bad for the body and soul.
Get home, and immediately have to ice the foot. No time (or patience) for browsing.
MDX is a fine transport vehicle for my weekly 110 mile commute. I sit in back, so Mrs. shootist doesn't scare me to death. She still doesn't have a good perception of how wide the MDX is.
I'll check back in from time to time. Until then, you'll have to struggle along without me.

Bummer, consider yourself lucky that is all you broke coming down a full flight of steps! Rest up and good luck with the new job.

Well, I did scrape my elbow, too!
But I didn't break my freakin' neck, which is probably good.

Shootist,

Get well and rest up! As someone that's been there, don't rush the healing process. I know you've got to work but otherwise, keep off it.

Best wishes!

I had my "groundhog day exam" last week, and doctor groundhog predicts 6 more weeks of darkness (that is, no weight bearing until Memorial Day). This is actually good news, since it could have been longer.

Just before Memorial Day, he unscrews these 3 inch long titanium sheetrock screws from my ankle. I'm not sure I want to know about that, other than getting a 6 hour headstart on the narcotics.

Here's a tip- if a doctor ever asks you if you want to see the xrays of your bones all screwed together, if you're sqeamish, SAY NO!

A month or two after that, I may be driving again. Poor 'X has had to adapt its shifting patterns to Mrs. Leadfoot Shootist. It will welcome a caring touch.
