Wow! Another season is upon us and national pundits actually have some good things to say about my beloved Tigers. Ticket sales are way up for the guys who wear ye olde English D.
How does your team look?
Anyone planning on going to attend any opening day games?
Let's see some of the great minds on this board make their post season prognostications.
I like in the AL; LAA, DET, NYY and Boston as the WC
NL; SF, STL, ATL and FLA as the WC |

My favorite spring training moment is Rodriguez and Trammell getting thrown out for arguing balls and strikes. Come on !! Did they think they were going to the spring training WS ?
It's hard to imagine the Giants doing much unless Bonds comes back. I hate to add to the ego in case he reads this board.
The picks you have are pretty much gimme's. So with the exception of DET and SF I agree, but I'm not sure yet who I'd replace those teams with. Maybe the Dodgers and Twins. |

The Twins will only be impossible to beat if Cleveland and especially Chicago keep beating themselves. They've literally given games away to Minnesota. The Twins pitching is suspect after Santana. Radke is really a .500 pitcher despite the W-L stat. After that, Lohse, Silva and possibly a rehabed Joe Mays who has already had Tommy John surgery. |

Thats what we are hearing. With Berkman on the DL it appears that Taveras will play CF and Luke Scott LF. Apparently Burke may be the odd man out. Lot of anti-Biggio talk now, but if he hits like he did last year he needs to play somewhere. Officially however Garner said he's not posting the starting lineup yet. |

Hey Mo-town boy,
What's the deal w/ your tiggers and the bully ?
Is Ugie on the trading block - are they gonna hand the reins over to Percy ? Personally, from a fantasy viewpoint, I'd rather have Ugie close & Percy setup, but then again, I wouldn't be managing in the Jr circuit. Think Ugie could end up in the NL before All Star break ??? |

That's Mr. Motown to you, jr. Word on the street is that UU is staying........for now. He has had good stuff this spring and Percy is no youngster anymore. |

He's right too!! What the fudge are they doing? :3: As a Yankee fan, I would be still pissed if they didn't win 3-0 against TB. For crying out loud, its the Devil Rays! |

I don't think it was seen by an umpire. In postseason play it wouldn't be missed by a RF ump. Sheffield should have raised his arm to indicate interference or fallen down once he was touched. He seems to have a short memory. There was the assault and battery as the play was taking place. Then another assault after it. In postgame sound he seemed to think he exercised great restraint. |

Agreed, he did make it sound like that. Then again, I can't say much since back in the day when they used to hurl "D" batteries at Canseco.
But fans sure are getting stupid. More related to the alcohol if you ask me. . . |

Of course. Just like the Artest incident. But business smart way to make beer go away without killing attendance. At least not until they start chucking car batteries at the outfielders. :) |

True, but not in the city of NY either.
May I remind you that your beloved yanks have not won since 2000 and the last 2 NL teams to win the WS beat the pin stripers . . . |

When they went away from pitching and defense, that's when it started to fall apart.
Then again, Yanks can't win every year. Tough standard to meet. |

| I've always been curious at just how much $$$ the Yankess bring in for ol' George. I mean look at just this decade, the Yanks have been to 3 WS, and won 1 title, but this year's payroll exceeded $200mm. If the Yanks only spent let's say $150mm on payroll, I'd bet they could still field a team that would have won 1 WS in the past 5 years - think of all the extra profit that would generate - it just staggers the imagination . . . maybe they'd be better off w/out Cashman and get a real go-getter as GM ?!? |

In Cashman's defense, most of the big money ticket items were done by the "Tampa branch" of the Yankees. It is still without argument that the core of Yankees were built during the early 90's under Gene Michael and Bob Watson, while the Boss was in exile.
The Boss/Tampa side was responsible for Sheffield, Giambi and Kevin Brown. The one that still boggles my mind is why they never spent the $ to keep Pettitte. |

| Yeah congrats to the Sox. They spent a good portion of the season (46% of their games) playing the weak AL Central. Then beat mediocre teams to win the playoffs and beat the Astros by the smallest run margin in the history of 4 game sweeps. |

Poor George
ESPN.com news services:
The New York Yankees lost between $50 million and $85 million for the 2005 season, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.
Despite drawing more than four million fans, a payroll of $200 million plus an additional $110 million in revenue sharing and luxury taxes has left the Yankees in the red, according to the paper.
"Yes, even George has his limits," one source told the Daily News.
The paper also reports that the Yankees might have to open up their checkbooks even further if a consultant hired by MLB decides the team undervalued their television rights.
The Yankees currently charge the YES Network about $60 million a year to broadcast games, but if it's found to be undervalued, the Yankees will have to make up the difference by putting more money into the revenue-sharing fund, the paper reported.
"They're going to owe us money," one MLB source predicted to the paper.
The final numbers won't be crunched for a few months, but it's believed the final number will be roughly $80 million when all is tallied. According to Forbes magazine, the Yankees lost $37.1 million in 2004. |
