I'm running out of ports on my laptop. My only two USBs are plugged with the mouse and bluetooth.
On the side is PCMCIA, there are two slots, one I use with PCMCIA adapter to CF card so I do backups on my business/financial software.
The other slot, wait a minute...what is that slot? Its got the same width as PCMCIA (credit card sized) but the PCMCIA card won't fit.
I need to know what is this port? I've read, I got info that this could be a 32-bit PCMCIA? Hmmmm...
Inquiring minds want to know quick. And what can i put in there.
I never bother about that port before until I'm running out of options. |

| Why don't you get a USB HUB a powered one. But basically it is a MINI PCMCIA slot. |

| My mouse came with a little green adaptor to plug into the actual mouse port. Is the bluetooth for a wireless connection ? You could use a wireless PCMCIA card. Not sure which of the slots it would fit tho. |

Thanks guys.
I really wanted to know what is that other slot with PCMCIA for.
Its the same credt card sized but regular PCMCIA card won't fit. I could use that port for Bluetooh maybe and free up a USB.
I've used USB hub but the dangles when I move around is too much.
I have to use USB for my mouse because that is the only mouse, Kensington, I found to have retractable "tail", so I can adjust the length I want. |

| Could be that that card slot only accepts the thinner type 1 PCMCIA cards... Maybe the card that you are trying to put in is a type II or type III.. Just a guess.. |

| Type 1 and Type 2 are of the same height but Type 3 is double the height. Do you have a picture to show us? |

It would help if you would tell us your laptops model.
32-bit PCMCIA is called CardBus. They're all CardBus now, backward compatible with 16-bit PCMCIA. It's most likely a CF card slot. If its a new laptop its an ExpressCard slot. http://www.expresscard.org/web/site/ |

PC Card Slots
One Type I/II 32-bit card bus (also supports 16-bit)
You could get a usb 2.0 firewire combo card and that would probably work out best use one of those ports for your bakcups or nay other high speed devices and use the built in USB 1.1 ports for the slow speed stuff.
PC cards are pretty inexpensive
I found them for less and 20 bucks but don't know the brands.
Found a name brand for less than 50

But couldn't you use the green adaptor ? You'd instantly free up a usb port. |

| Sometimes they doin't "translate" well and either don't work at all or some keys don't work. UNLESS it came with the keyboard or mouse itself. |
