:3:hi everyone i'm new this forum i too had the tpms issues with the 05 mdx , bought an 05 mdx for my wife b-day in march it has spent more time in the dealers garage then in ours, in the 2 weeks we had it the truck went back to the dealer 7 times for this issue. we finally had enough and started to raised hell with the dealer to give us another new mdx , being a three time returning customer they went ahead and gave us another one. here is the real killer when we came in to pick up the new car everything was fine and dandy until the next day when wouldnt you know it the tpms light came on my wife was screamming, 2 cars with the same problem back to back what else could happen to us, the service manager called the engineers of acura for advice so far this is what they have done to the car .
replace all sensors on tires sensor module units front and back , ingnition switch even with all this done the problem is still there so as of today we are waiting for acura to get back to the service manager about either putting us on a new rl with no extra charge or an a-spec kit for my 04 tl also with no extra charge i hope they will give us the first option then i will forgive them for all this trouble and stress for 43000 vehicle i really feel bad for all the others out there with this problem dont give up and put pressure on them to do something for you. |

Wow...
You seem to have very bad luck! Vehicles do have issues but 2 in a row is just bad luck..especially with Acura!
BTW....$43,000 is not all that much for a vehicle in today's world. There are GM, Ford, Dodge SUVs going for that and more! |
|
|
| tommy3443 |
| that is very true but look at those dealers now they are trying to give away those dodge ford and chevys at way below invoice prices. i had always believe the japs made the most reliable cars thats why i think 43000 for a jap car with issues such as this back to back is just awful for that price. :( |

| didnt mean to make it sound that bad or offensive cause i'm a asian myself i have been called worse but thats not the issue here the issue is with the car i'm just mad at acura right now because they dont know what the problem is or how to fixed it:3: :3: :3: |

My TPMS light came on too! I had the car for about a month.
while driving home last night from work then the TPMS light came on while I was on the highway and before I get home I went to fill up the X and check the tire, everything seem ok. After I start up the car again the light went away. And this morning dove the wife to work the TPMS light didn't come on. And dove around for another half-hours jsut to see if the light would come on, nothing. Hopefully, everything is ok. Just worry me that the light would just come on by itself. |
|
|
| tommy3443 |
| the tpms light will only come on during startup, if you start your car and the light is off it will stay off no matter how far you drive it , but if you start the car and the light comes then it will stay on until you turn off the engine so my solution to this problem is to restart the car if the light comes on give this a try ngageMDX:4: |
|
|
| ngageMDX |
so, if I start the car up and the TPMS goes off then it will stay off..
hmmm.. that is usually the case.. It just that it went on while I was driving...
got to keep that in mind
thanks |

| My TPMS light came on today with just over 1100 miles on my 2005. It came on as I was leaving the Acura Dealer for an unrelated issue with my finance paperwork so I drove into the service department. They ran a bunch of tests and could not diagnose the problem so they called the "engineers" at Acura who recommended replacing the TPMS main sensor that is located inside the vehicle under the dash. They sent me away and advised they would contact me when the new part comes in. On my way home the light did not come on again and is still off !!! I think there is a serious design flaw in this system that is going to become a real customer service issue with Acura. Especially if they cannot fix the problem. It is not the most important feature on the MDX but it should still work, especially since I have only had the truck less than a month !!! |

| tpms is starting to be a real pain in the butt on the 05's as of right now there is no fix to the problem. however my service manger called and he told me to bring the car in on monday to replace the fuse box, he stated that the only difference between the 04 and 05's are the fuse box so hopefully this will solve the problem, will let you know the outcome when it is done. :4: |

| Just FYI, my sister's '05 MDX has had the same intermittent TPMS problem since she got it in February. Last week, her dealer checked with Acura, and found a TSB saying the problem seems to happen on models equipped with the DVD entertainment system - something about the wireless headphones and screen interferes with the radio frequency indicators in the wheels, causing the TPMS light to come on. Acura is replacing the DVD units to rectify the problem, and she has one on order. Hope this helps! :) |

This morning my TPMS light came on and stayed on, with my just over 1 week old MDX. We haven't even used the headphones yet for the RES, so it looks like there is more to this problem than just that.
I did check the tires and they are all fine.
The next start of the MDX the light was no longer on solid. So we'll see how often this happens. |

I was a little surprised to see that the federal government has mandated at some future point all vehicles need this.
It really seems like another idiot light that is prone to problems, thus this thread.
I suppose at some point they will get the kinks worked out. Until then I guess you folks with '05's had better carry an air gauge... |

My MDX did the same thing with a thousand miles on it. This problem has NOTHING to do with the RES or headphones nor does it have anything to do with the NAV system. My dealer replaced the TPMS brain module in the dash and it has not acted up again since replacement. It is a common problem that Acura knows about. Hope this helps.... |

| There are similiar TPMS problems with the 2005 Pilots. |

It's true, Acura does knows about this problem and the current fix is to replace the tpms control unit. No tsb on this yet. Glad to hear that it fixed your car Copout221. :2: |

| So far so good.... I have not had one additional problem with it since the module was replaced. |

My TPMS has mysteriously started working again. It malfunctioned twice after the first week, but has not had an issue in the last 3 weeks.
I think I'll wait until my first service visit to bring it up with the dealership. |

Just a follow-up: since replacing the RES unit two months ago, we've had no more TPMS problems. Zero. Another poster was quick to respond with how the RES wasn't at all related to TPMS problems, but it seems it was in our case. There is a pre-TSB from Acura available to dealer service centers willing to do a little digging.
Seems different MDX's have different solutions.
Good luck to anyone else plagued with the TPMS bug. :) |

It's not a TSB or preliminary TSB. This is covered in the Feb. 2005 Acura Service News. It's an internal newsletter that dealership technicians get every month. It doesn't require digging, just remembering that we already have it. |

Dig, remember, whatever it takes... as long as that damn TPMS light stays off... :4: |

Just this week, my wife bought a 2005 MDX with Touring and Nav (no DVD)...and with a TPMS light that stays on when it's not supposed to. It lit up on the 4th day of ownership.
She scheduled an appointment on 9-15-05 so the service dept. can check it out. I'll post back with the results. |

The better question is what changed from '04 to '05?
I have an '04 with DVD and RES, and so far in 20K miles, no problems with the TPS.
As somebody said, I personally would prefer not having those darn systems (both my cars have it, and it's almost a necessity on the other due to run-flat tires), since it's one more thing to go wrong.
And wait when those suckers need new batteries; they need to be REPLACED at over $100 a pop. Ridiculous.
Good day.

I complained about the TMPS light coming in intermittently, but all my dealer would do is clear the code. They said the code said "electrical short", and that they couldn't find anything wrong. This worked for about two weeks, but now it is coming on again intermittently.
So I guess I'll inform them about the control module, since they are acting like I'm the only one ever to complain about this issue.
But I'm wondering if they will do more harm then good by replacing this control module, since I'm guessing they would have to take the dash apart.....and then I worry that I'll have even more squeaks and rattles! Not sure which is worse.... TPMS light or more squeaks and rattles. I've already got several unfixable rattles. All the dealership will say is "they all do that". |

Follow up on my last post...so I went to the dealer last week so they could check out the TPMS light coming on (when it wasn't supposed to) and they said that the system settings (probably calibration of some sort) were incorrect and so they said that they reset the system back to the correct settings and it should work now.
Also, by the time I got to the dealer, the TMPS was already off. I'll post again if the problem comes back. |

I found this on the TPMS:
Component Description:
1. TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS Bulletin Number: 05023
Bulletin Date: SEP 2005
Vehicle: 2005 Acura MDX
Summary:
THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) INDICATOR IS ON INTERMITTENTLY WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE 45 STORED. *TT
But I don't have access to the full information (need an ALLDATA account ). Is there another way to view the entire TSB?
Thanks. |
