| I have a 2001 MDX and aprox 6-8 months into owning the vehicle I started hearing a loud whistle, sounds like someone blowing over a coke bottle. I have since had it in the shop multiple times - with windows resealed, gaskets resealed, side mirror replaced, door foot panel replaced.... a I think a few other things done... but still having the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn't always happen, usually on a windy day, with a cross-wind, speeds of 60 -80 mph, uneven road. So, last time I had it in and they repaired a few things was aprox 6 months ago.... thought it was fixed but started happening again. I've been told to bend the top of the door frame, but haven't gone that route yet. Any suggestions, or hear of this happening to anyone else? |

Before you start bending door frames, etc, try a couple of other simple things:
1. Reposition roof rack cross bars, and check that roof rack itself is attached tight to roof. Gaps are a potential 'whistle' source.
2. Check alignment of hood, windshield wipers, windshield wiper plastic trim valence, and sunroof trim pieces.
Good luck! |

I remember this. Happens most of the time when the rear passenger window is half open. Sounds more like a helicopter.
Its one of the benefits of owning a MDX. |

| Search for KAZOO. It might be the wind coming from under the hood and up the A pillar. There were enough people complaining about it for me to remember, but not everyone had the issue nor do I recall any specific fix from Acura. There were some DIY fixes IIRC. |

My 01 has the same thing. It's so loud sometimes you can't hear the radio. Always seemed to happen at higher speeds on windy days. Last week in far West Texas it wouldn't stop and gave me a chance to test things.
Try just barely bumping the drivers window switch and roll it down a fraction. It stopped. Tested it over and over. Can't explain why, but it worked. |

When I had a high-pitched whistle at 60mph, it turned out to be the tranny. It only happened when accelerating at 60, not when I took my foot off the gas (best I can recall). The shop blamed it on all sorts of things before they finally put the X up on the lift and ran it up to 60mph on the rack and listened underneath the car.
Have you had the tranny recall done? I hope this isn't your problem, but it might be worth checking on. |

Sinecure,
I took it in for the recall and they cracked the cap, so had to replace the tranny, but I have them check that next time I take it in. Thanks |

| Wind noise. Read in other posts (and this sounds like it might be it) that the Coke Bottle noise is caused by wind moving across the mirror drain ports. I have heard it also, but only when I am driving into a major wind. Which happens a lot in Oklahoma. Hope this sheds some light. |
