Is it me or does it seem that the traffic on the site has slowed down considerably. I think if we allow back some of the previous controversial thread, ie politics, we would have an influx of visitors to the site.

It just seems dead right now.

My 2 cents, of course. :23: :23: :23:

OK, let me start: Bush is a (fill in the blank). I'm Canadian; what do you think I'd put in the blanK?

Well it can't be American because you had "a" and not "an". I'll say Texan. Or is it Ford man ?

Personally we should just leave it as is. This like most site will have a lull in the action.

So the word can't start with a vowel like an "A." It must therefore start with a consonant like an "F" or an "S", right?

I think C and M are consonants too. :)

True, but for some reason, only F and S words come to mind.

Tim,

It just seems that the sight got more traffic when there was a wider range of subjects on the board.

Then again, I could be wrong. . .
robrecht
Well, I usually enjoy a good discussion of politics or religion, but it got pretty hostile here for a while. If people want to bring this back, I think the moderators should be ready (and willing) to take an active role in ocassionally stepping in when an extremist goes way too far. I went looking for one of those old discussions just the other day. I guess they were deleted and not just locked?

Traffic just for traffic's sake isn't a good idea. I know that when the political discussions got heated, many people just didn't want to visit here. I was one of them.

I suspect a lot of quality members would be lost in the mayhem that would insue. My .02

Fair enough. But I'm kinda getting tired of reading posts about gas slosh.

We need some variety!

How about organizing a regular chat night? Or a contest of some kind?

Your meet idea is a good one....my recent meet did a lot for my audio site :)

I often check the boards the last thing before I leave the office and the first thing when I arrive. This is what it said this morning:

The time now is 08:26 AM.
You last visited: 04-27-2005 04:54 PM.

91 new posts

I have been here a long time as most of you know and except for the exceptional hundreds of dots or abc's in the gallery or the occasional 75 thongs per hour rampages this 91 posts a night is pretty normal is it not?

I agree with Tim that 91 "legitimate" posts between 5:00 pm and 8:00 am is preferable to twice as many "illegitimate" posts! There are plenty of OT topics to engage in IF folks wanted to; for example WHY is there so little Sports talk going on? There was 8 total posts in this years NCAA playoffs thread - compare that to previous years. We do not even have an NBA playoffs thread this year.

I'm not sure I can tell you why the OT Sports postings have dropped; however I do know I was criticized for my "excessive" posting in the NCAA football thread of two years ago. But even without any serious Sports related posts we did have 91 new posts last night and I believe that is a historically typical number (exceptions excluded as noted).

I wouldn't put too much stock in that "91" number several of you keep quoting, as if last night were the epitome of all night's traffic flow. The fact is that traffic on this site has dropped off dramatically. Many posters have listed a variety of reasons, most of them are probably correct. I have my own reason, which I dare say many would probably identify with.

Although I didn't care for the unseemly *****ing and whining that often popped up in "off-topic" threads, at least it helped make this site more interesting and more worth visiting during those rare and coveted moments of spare time. When I wasn't in the mood, I simply ignore those threads. When I felt like mixing it up, I'd take a look and usually found that I learned a few things in the process. Now this site just seems sterile and mostly uninteresting. What a shame because I really enjoyed visiting from 2002-2004.

For the record I do not consider any of the Hottest Thongs or Babe pictures that were posted correctly in their respective forum to be ""illegetimate" as you refer to them.

I do agree that there was one posted incorrectly in The Exotic Car Thread by another member, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.
msu79gt82
No need for anyone to get their panties in a dither (or thongs - I put "illegitimate" in QUOTES by the way!!!).

For the record; as of 5 minutes ago this site has registered 271,785 posts (see forum homepage). admin is the first registered user and his first post was on 11/11/2000. There has been 1640 days passed since 11/1/00.

A simple math calculation will show that we have averaged ~ 165 posts per day since the site was formed. These are the facts and that was the purpose of my post above. We are still averaging at least 165 posts or more a day. I have been a part of this group for over 4 years now and traffic has been remarkably consistent - I do not see an overall drop in traffic; although the post per day counts have ridden small roller-coasters no doubt.

Another reason for my post was to suggest that OT postings have dropped not because of a lack of subject matter; or do we HAVE to have babes, politics, and religion before we can talk sports:rolleyes:

Perk summed up my feelings exactly. In fact I think perk is the behind the last thread on here I actually found really interesting and that was pics from his cross-country trip.

Things are just too boring. Hope the powers that be got what they wanted because I'm pretty sure my contributions($$) won't continue.

At least this thread is getting some play.

Then again, they still burn books in parts of this country.

I recommend we get rid of the posts count under our avatars and the posts leader board on the home page. Advice is advice whether its coming from someone who posts when they can actually add something to the discussion or from someone who posts in every single thread to appear artificially active and knowledgable.

What's your point labor? Why is a moderator trying to pick a fight? Are you so desperate for "traffic" that you bring up your own dirty laundry? There is NO OTHER member on this site who cares MORE about their post counts than YOU!

Pick a fight, more of a statement of fact.
I care about is the site. You're more preoccupied in trying to keep post counts down and eulogizing on how it used to be in the good ole days.

I do congratulate you on alienating a good 1/3 of the members with all your ranting and raving.

So then, why don't we just do away with the post counts altogether.

Then again, what will you have to ***** and moan about again.:mblah:

Get rid of the post count ? I liked it the first time I posted. Sure it's blown up with some of the various threads here but it still gives a sense of who you might be able to trust more and who less.

That said, I also read what essentially amounts to a gossip board about my business in my locale. People are able to post not only without even registering, but without any chance of censorship, unless they post copyrighted material (no court orders for removal yet), or post worthless drivel which is simply moved to the post junkyard.

I also should mention I've never given any $ to either site though I have done business with one of this site's sponsors.

Not true and a good reason to get rid of the post count. High posts do not equal rank, knowledge, better advice, et al.

A high post count only indicates a lot of posts and since it appears to be a polarizing part of this site we should get rid of it. I guarantee the site would have less unescessary posts when certain posters knew their post count wouldn't be increased..

Censorship is censorship, whether it's politics or bikinis

The reality of the situation is that the internet is NOT a democracy, and neither are these forums. It is a monarchy, or an oligarchy.....depending on the situation. People get democracy and free speech confused when it comes to internet forums and think that they have a right to post whatever they want claiming free speech. Ain't so. Here the rules are set forth by the admin and owner of the site, and not by us.

Daniel doesn't owe us anything to keep this site going. This site is a priviledge, and not a right, so therefore we should abide by his guidelines and keep the politics and thong shots off, in respect to him. To do any less is disrespectful of the guidelines of the community.

Traffic here can be related into two categories.....on-topic, and off-topic. There is still plenty of MDX content posted here daily, even though we've seen much of the same topics reposted.

Lets not get carried away here. While I agree that Daniel owes us nothing, the reverse is also true. While I am not privy to the financial makeup of this website, I am quite certain that it is not a "non-profit" venture. I presume that revenues are generated via advertising, the rates for which is determined in large part by the traffic on this site.
hondacuraworld
Maybe I did overstate my point. All I'm saying is we just have to honor the rules of the house.
admin
Traffic is what it is. It is worth saying that we have accumulated gigabytes of information, so it's hard to start a thread and being pointed to either a search box or an older thread. You know how it is.

With that said, I'm open to ideas that do not involve thongs, politics and religion. How about I start a new site, justthongspoliticsandreligion.org, I'm sure it's going to be a hit. But that's not the point here. The trick is to diversify our discussions and keep our heads cool at the same time.

So I'm sure if we put our heads together we will come up with the way.

I'll start: I'm up for a weekly chat. But this time we can make it interesting. I'm sure we have enough experts in different areas, so perhaps we can have themed discussions. I can do any web/internet/computer related topics.

And just for the record, the revenues from the site cover just enough to pay for the server lease and its upkeep.

We did this back in late 2002/early 2003 and it worked very well. I'd regularly attend online chat discussions. xcel used to be a regular there too but once he left, it seemed the chat died out.

I probably didn't explain that very well.

When I first started coming here, there were a few people that had some really good MDX related advice and there were a few people that seem to post from a shanty in Montana. The post counts seem to reinforce that. All of the boards I look at keep track of post counts...of registered users anyway. Without them it would be easy for people to come here just to stir things up as was apparently the case last week. I'm only talking about the MDX topic areas.

I'm a relative newcomer here...only been bookmarking this page 13 months or so and I have no idea what the history is of whatever this is really about. But I don't think any personal conflicts should change the layout of the site.

I agree with Tim. There really is no 100% free speech, anywhere. There's always time, place and manner considerations.
