Know someone with a TiVo that has a referral account balance? (points earned when someone enters an email address when activating a TiVo subscription)

They can purchase a 1 year gift subscription for $155.40
This fee is for 12 months of TiVo service at 12.95/month. When you activate you can upgrade to lifetime if you want.

When the gift sub is purchased, you get a free 140 hour TiVo.
No rebates and free shipping.

I have done this for a few people, not to make a profit, just trying to pass on the offer, although tokens of appreciation are accepted :) and I am looking forward to them using my referral code as I am trying to get enough to earn a TiVo DVD recorder.

The person placing the order just needs your name, shipping address, and phone number and TiVo will ship the unit direct to you.

This promotion ends on the 30th and as I understand it, TiVo will ship the free 140 hour TiVo in about a week.

Those of you that have TiVo, how valuable of a resource is it?

I don't watch a ton of TV, but the Law and Order shows are a must see for me :)

I have been a TIVO fan for several years, and currently have three of them along with Direct TV. I will never not own a TIVO or some other DVR. There is no question that TIVO is currently the best of the DVR's, but others are catching up fast. It's real claim to fame is its user friendliness and options (Season pass etc). On the other hand, TIVO's uncertain future would lead me to not consider the "lifetime fee". Direct TV is moving away from TIVO, and will begin their own version in the coming months.

Bottom line....get it.

Imagine not having to ever put in a tap or program a VCR.
Imaging having a OnScreen TV guide that only lists programs you want to watch.
Imagine not having to change your schedule to fit the broadcast schedule.
Imagine skipping over commercials.
Imagine never being disapointed being presented with a rerun.

Now imagine looking back and seeing how silly your question is...

All of this will be your life with a TiVo, and this is a great deal!

Haven't done that in years ;)

Now THAT is a feature!

Eh, TV's not that important.....

Imagine skipping over commercials.

Nice :)

Or another Raymond episode! Gawd I am so sick of watching the Robert's wedding crap!

Hm, maybe I should look into this.

I received my TIVO from XStatic's offer last night (thanks again!). It seems pretty cool but I need to give it a few days to start building up a collection of shows. So far I've set up 5 season passes for Nickelodeon shows and of course, Law and Order: SVU. I couldn't set them up last night because the TIVO needs the first 4-8 hours after install to configure the channels and listings for the next 2 weeks. Going forward, I believe it does the phoneline updates and configuration at 3 am every morning. I did have to call TIVO support because my unit shipped in demo mode that rendered the remote useless. After I unplugged and replugged it in, the demo deleted from the drive and I was taken through the setup wizard. All-in-all a pretty painless experience.

I still need to figure out the IR code for my standard cable box and how to record HBO movies that would be protected from my daughter watching them. I was hoping that what we save would be in folders based on our names but I don't believe my model/firmware version does this (yet). I do plan on hooking it up to my PC and streaming MP3's and picture slideshows.

I'm ready to change the way we watch TV!

I have a General Instruments cable box with a 540 series 2 TIVO. You'll notice the large word INCOMPATIBLE in red for my model. Great. :(

Just found this post, I hate to see that. I had no idea that kind of problem existed.

In your email I got the impression that you worked it out another way though.

Enjoy!

Yes - I subscribed to digital cable and used the direct serial cable with the new Motorola cable box. All is well.
