I am ready to trade in my 26 month old 2003 MDX. I'm frustrated by a series of small but annoying problems with my once loved MDX.
A couple of months ago I posted because the vanity lights and the door locks would switch on and off when I made right turns. Brought it to the dealer and after 3 visits problem resolved (door switch replaced).
Last night I was leaving a park after my son's baseball game and the car wouldn't start, just the grind of a dead battery. I got a jump from my son's coaches and replaced the battery this morning at a local shop.
This morning I notice that the horn isn't working. I brought it back to the shop that replaced the battery and the horn fuse was fine. Now I have another appointment with the dealer to see if they can fix the horn.
I wonder if all these problems are related or if gremlins are living in the MDX.
This car is barely 2 years old and I am up at the dealer almost every other month.
Does anyone have any thoughts on if these problems could be related or do I just have very bad luck? |

OK, take it easy, they fixed the door problem, to bad it took 3 visits, new battery but horn not working and going back to dealer again. So if the horn gets fixed, what else is wrong with the X. I don't think you are having any other problems. I know its a pain in the a$$ to always visit the dealer, but after these problems are fixed, how is the X then, runs good, great ride, etc.
Hope they fix your horn the first time and then be able to enjoy your ride:) |

My frustration has more to do with the fact that after spending more than 40k for a car, I didn't expect to have to devote this much of my time to going back and forth to the dealer.
My last cars were Toyotas; Corolla,Previa and Sienna, and the only time I ever brought them in was for scheduled maintenance.
I did a lot of research before buying the MDX and one of the main reasons I bought it was because of it's reputation for being reliable.
Now I know several people with problem-free MDX's but unfortunately I'm not one of them.
I realize that the problems I've had are not major but they are very annoying. The service manager at my dealer even asked me what kind of coffee I'd like him to stock because I'm such a frequent visitor.
Much as I love the ride and handling of the MDX, I have better things to do with my time than getting to know the service people better. |

| It does happen though. There will always be a small percentage of even a highly reliable vehicle that have multiple problems. We just recently went through owning both a 2003 MDX and a 2004 Toyota Sienna that had multiple problems. The MDX had multiple body integrity issues but no mechanical issues while the Toyota had both body and mechanical problems. Both are rated very highly in reliabilty ratings and everyone else we know with the same vehicles had minor problems at best. If it becomes too time consuming to deal with the issues then it's great that the MDX keeps it's resale value fairly high. |
