Warning : Long Entry/Vent

Ok, Needless to say I'm quite pissed right now. As you all know I got my 01' X in March and about 3 weeks after my engine light and VTM light went on. Come to find out it's my EGR. Ok fine, I've had that problem before with my 90' Honda Accord. Well now I have another problem with my lovely X. Yesterday I went out and when I got to my destination, before I could even turn my alarm on the horn started going off like it was the factory alarm. I kept pressing my alarm remote buttons to see if it had been my panic button or something which really couldn't have been possible since my alarm isn't hooked up to the horn. After pressing the buttons several times all I heard was my aftermarket alarm going off and on as I was hitting the buttons under the horn. It continued to go off for about 3 - 5 mins or so then would just stop. Well what a relief. I was sick and tired of complete morons coming up to me and acting like I was stupid. Excuse me, but I'm not one of those idiots who doesn't know how to work my alarm. So anyway I went in to my thing, came back out and unlocked my car then open the door and the stupid horn started up AGAIN! So I just sat there and let it go as more people came up and kept jumping on me about it. It finally shut up as I was putting my kids into the car. Then I went to open the tailgate to put my sons stroller in and it went on again. Hmmm, I'm thinking it HAS to be the Acura factory alarm. It had nothing to do with my aftermarket alarm. So anyway, I'm pissed off at the world right now. I bit my husbands head off last night because I was upset those assholes sold us a lemon. I'm still in love with my X of course, but not with all the damn problems. Grrrr!!! I'm looking into buying a factory remote to see if that might work in case this happens again or just going to Acura and asking them if they can just disconnect it all-together. I can't even drive my X until something gets figured out or else if I'm driving and the horn is honking with my lights flashing someone might think I stole it. Ugh!! So does anyone have any advice? Thanks!! :3:  :28: :banghead:

See, you should have traded it in for an '05 like you wanted to do last week. :o

Sounds to me like the aftermarket alarm is messing up something. Did you add that or was it on the car? The aftermarket unit has to be linked to the stock stuff because that's how you unlock the doors. Unless you have Lojack, I don't understand why you'd have an aftermarket alarm? Does it do something special?

Good luck.

Well when we got it they said they didn't have the remotes. They also said it didn't have alarm. That is why I put my own in. But now I'm starting to think it DID have an alarm. Grrrr...

Can I assume you use the aftermarket remote to unlock the doors ? If you use the power locks to lock the car, you're arming the system. If you use another source to unlock it, the car thinks someone's breaking in. Same thing happens if you sit inside and pull up on the lock. If this is the situation, unlocking the car with the key should do the trick for the short term.

Or maybe you don't have door lock control so I'm wrong.

You can get factory remotes from any dealer, or from Tim (save money that way!) It's not too hard to program the car to them yourself; there should be instructions on this website for doing so. If you can't find them, I'll post 'em again. Honda remotes will work, too, but they don't look as cool:2:

Use the actual key and open and lock your drivers door. Just one time. The factory alarm is connected to it.

edit: niteguy already said this

Let's see......
You're ticked off at the car because a 4 year old egr with lots of miles went bad (let's call that normal maintenance), and a poorly installed aftermarket alarm grafted on top of a factory alarm malfunctioned.
I'm thinking that you are venting in the wrong direction.
Try this:
1. Accept that machinery does age and normally requires more maintenance as it gets older.
2. Accept that installation of aftermarket accessories (especially something as potentially complex as an overlapped alarm install) involves some risk, and that you are the one assuming the responsibility if something goes wrong, NOT the car manufacture.
