| I am interested in the MDX inner bike rack. Any of you have installed one? What is your view about this rack? |

| I've only ever sold one or two in almost 5 years. It's a fork lock that bolts to the floor and renders the cargo floor pretty useless once installed. |

I looked into the intertior bike racks, but did not get them.
If they came with some type of quick release to remove the fork mounts from the floor, I'd be more interested. I'm still thinking about an inside fork mount, but haven't decided how I want them attached. One thought was to bolt the fork mounts to a piece of wood that is easily removable. The other is just to attach the fork mounts onto the cargo door as designed, but use a different attachment such as one with a knob instead of a nut so I can remove it without tools. |

erictiger,
Here's just one (of many) previous discussion threads on the topic of bike racks.
http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...nside+bike+rack
This thread includes a couple pictures of the interior bike mount type rack for the MDX that you are considering, in addition to other types. In my opinion, a roof mounted bike rack is a better option.
If, however, you decide to go with the interior bike rack anyway, you can get $20 locking fork-mount devices from either Yakima or Thule and attach these onto the back of your cargo panel.
Good luck on your decision. |

I've mounted my inner rack on the cargo lid (very strong lid indeed), and have purchased an additional cargo lid so that it only takes 5 seconds to install or remove the lid/rack. Yes, the replacement lid is pricey, but it keeps the stock look of the vehicle and you don't lose functionality of the cargo area with sharp, protruding rack mounts.
My brother used to bolt his fork mounts to a board, then just place the board in back of his SUV. He used the prickly side of velcro to on the underside of the board to keep it from sliding around. I don't think he ever thought about what would happen in a high speed rollover. That bike will strike every passenger and the driver probably several times. I know the bike could still be ripped from the cargo lid even if it was bolted together during any violent accident, but I figure since bikes can be such formidable projectiles, at least you should try to minimize the risk as much as possible. It ain't no stuffed animal. Plus, the bikes are less than 24" from your precious noggin.
If you bolt the fork mounts to the cargo lid and also use an adjustable strap to tie down the bike frames to the cargo anchor rings, you'll have a more secure system. Acura inner mounts come with these straps, but you can use any metal-buckled strap.
Good luck |

| My loss, your gain. I have an extra cargo lid in which the carpet area has been bleached on most sides. The lid is otherwise new, 4k miles on the 05 mdx and in perfect working order. just doesn't look great on the edges. Tim thinks you could dye it, but I just bought a new one. Ps. warning, don't put a spray bottle with bleach in the back, it could bust open and well, you get the rest. New they are $160, but i would sell mine for $60 including shipping. I will not be using my car for carrying bikes. Anyway, this could solve the problem of ruining the existing cargo lid with holes. Drill away! |

Posted this in another thread that was pretty much idle.. please excuse the repost but...
I have a hitch rack that I use for my car, but have found tossing the bike into the back of the SUV pretty convenient. How has the experience been with the interior mount rack? I'm pretty confident I can make/find a replacement lid and mount to that so I don't damage the factory one.
Any problems with larger bikes (20" or 60 cm)?
On the other hand - any ideas on whether installing a hitch without the cooling kit voids any warranties? |
