Has anybody taken their MDX on Amtrak's auto-train? They say to make sure your alarm is off on your car, otherwise it will go off continually all the way down and your battery may be dead when you get there.

Does the MDX have a motion-sensor alarm? Is the alarm armed if the doors aren't locked? I assume they probably don't even lock the doors when they drive them onto the auto-train cars.

Interesting concept on bringing the X down there. What's the cost?

As for the alarm, I'd disarm it also since the train would cause lots of movement.

Are you doing this for a vacation? We had looked into this from MA and found it cheaper to fly down and rent a car there. This was a while ago so prices may have changed. Plus we would have had to drive 1/3 of the way there to get on the train. I would guess that they leave the keys in the vehicles once they are on the train to save time and the possibility of lost keys.

Yes, it is vacation. It is a couple hundred dollars more than flying and renting a car, but the kids will like the train, I'll like having my mdx, and wife will like being able to pack as much junk as she wants.

They charge about $500 to round-trip the MDX.

How do you disable the alarm?

I assume that the alarm that you are talking about is aftermarket. I do not think an alarm in standard on the MDX.

I don't have an aftermarket alarm- just the horn honker that I have set off a couple of times- so it is just door-based, no motion sensor?

Took the auto train once-- It was like "UPS-ing" yourself--- Up&down, back&forth etc... We still joke about it!

Just manually lock the doors (via the chrome switch at the driver's door). I think that keeps the MDX locked without arming the factory alarm.

Is this factory alarm an option? I did not know that one was offered.

Why alarm the vehicle??
Who can steal it?? AND, if someone illegally wanders into the vehicle area and breaks in, you wont hear the alarm going off anyway....................

They drive it on the train, not me. They probably will not lock it- but they make a big deal about how your alarm should be disabled.
