My brand new X is in the shop already. Can you believe it??
Power steering rack seal leaking fluid, so the seal has to be replaced. Bad news is parts are coming late Monday, to be repaired and finished Tuesday. Should I be steamed or roll with it?? BTW I am in a lovely Ford Escape for now. I told SA that I wanted to be in an MDX by Saturday, or I would be raising hell. What would you folks do in this situation?? I know that parts can fail, but 2 days out of the gate on a 40K lux vehicle?? Just had to vent

| Kinda stinks after 2 days, but early on is when a lot of stuff that is going to break will break. I'd be more upset with stuff breaking with 10,000 miles on it than with 100. |

| As bad as it is to have this happen after 2 days, the dealer appears to be doing right by you.....I would chill and roll with it. |

Sorry about your new ride. Every manufacturer in the world is susceptible to the occasional "defective part". I wouldn't be too mad about your MDX.
Now your loaner car is another story.....How in the heck did you get a Ford? They should have given you another Acura...at least a TSX, if not a TL. Did you specifically ask for a SUV replacement? |
|
|
| X4ME |
| Dude that does suck and being in a Ford Escape sucks more but it could happen to any one. Think of it this way, once you get back into the MDX, you'll appreciate it even more especially after having been in the pos ford. |

i'll have to agree with NCHeel...it's much easier to deal with an off-the-lot problem than several months later. it also avoids any "questioning" or pointing fingers from the dealership.
ditch the Ford. |

| thanks guys, the SA has been more than accomodating given the situation, and they had no acura's left for loaners:( |

No offense but the X is not a luxury vehicle! The X is an excellent SUV and you will love it.
There are a ton of SUV's at $40K + from Ford, GM, Jeep etc. and they aren't "luxury vehicles " either.
Chill out....stuff does happen. |

| Ask for the 7500 mile service to be complimentary. I had so many problems with my '03 MDX, Acura replaced it with an '04 MDX after I mentioned the lemon law. |

This partially correct.....there aren't that many Ford, Chevy, and GMC SUVs that sell for $40K+. The MSRP is certainly above $40K, but they don't sell for that! MANY full size Amercian SUVs are selling for $10,000 below MSRP.
I can sort of understand why someone would say the MDX "isn't" a luxury SUV. But in many ways it is! Acura has never offered "factory cash back". Of course we know the dealerships are slashing prices a bit to increase sales.....but it's not the same thing. The manufacturer's rebate is one thing that kills American cars/SUVs resale value.
Also Acura offers a much better standard warranty. And I'd bet you couldn't get a 7year/100K mi warranty for under $1,000 on a Suburban.
Ford has the Lincoln Navigator (a spiffied Expedition), and it's "luxury". GM has the Escalade and Escalade EXT (loaded Tahoe/Suburban), and they're "luxury". So Honda has the Pilot, the "people's" SUV, and Acura has the "luxury" SUV......no?

Acura offers cash back periodically including last summer to get rid of the last of the '04 models. MDX's are selling at or below dealer cost right now. Several members have bought '05 X's under invoice. Doesn't sound like much of a "luxury" vehicle to me??
Don't get me wrong we love our X but it is not in the luxury class of vehicles.....near luxury OK..
PS. There is NOTHING luxury from Ford and GM! That was my original point. |

Ahhh I get it...you're saying just because it's "40 grand", doesn't mean it's luxury. |

| The MDX IS definitely a luxury vehicle. Price has nothing to do with establishing this fact. End of discussion !!!! |
|

Copout221, I do side with you on this. However I see Echo2625's point too.
The MDX lacks some key features that pure luxury SUVs have. Active HID headlights, real wood, adjustable air suspension, active anti-roll bars, 3 lockable differentials, 4-channel ABS, LED tail lights, smart cruise control etc. |

Exactly.
The X is a near luxury vehicle. Acura is a near luxury division of Honda. |

Well I have driven the best of them: Mercedes, Bentley, BMW, Land Rover, Cadillac (Rated Luxury), Lexus, Audi, Infinity, Lincoln, and even Rolls-Royce. Trust me, the acura has a better ride than most of the brands listed above and incorporates the same major features. YES, the Acura does not have HID's, LED Tail's, real wood, air suspensions, laser guided cruise control, etc. However, my MDX DOES HAVE the same luxury features found in the most expensive vehicles such as Tire Pressure monitoring system, heated seates, true dual climate control, Navigation System with voice recognition, leather seating surfaces, bluetooth technology, moisture sensing wiper system, auto headlamp system, onstar, XM, heated exterior mirrors, homelink, etc.
My decision to buy this SUV came after driving one for a day and realizing it was an amazing ride and very comfortable. I was going to purchase the RX330 and backed out for the Acura because I liked the handling and ride much better. Trust me, this is a Luxury vehicle without any doubt, even if it does not have REAL WOOD (now that is ridiculous to even complain about) .... |

:hmmm: When I bought the MDX a year ago, all I was thinking is Acura is the sports or sporty division of Honda (wasn't thinking about luxury). Ok, now we'll have to discuss whether it's sports or sporty... :) |

| What if Honda hadn`t come up with the name " Acura" some 20 years ago? Then, would MDX still be a "luxury, near luxury, or any -xury" car, or just another Honda? Or are we really so thick, that without a fancy badge we can`t tell a good car from a bad one? I can almost hear the morons scream : " Oh my God. $40K for a Honda?!?! Oh it`s an Acura, well, that`s a different story". |

| Its been argued before. Acura focuses more on handling and sportiness with just enough luxury to justify it's price over Honda. Acura has the luxury features, but the interior is not as "luxurious" as Lexus, etc. Now let's discuss whether it is a "truck" or not.......:D. |

Don`t you mean "Toyota"? |

| Am I the only one who finds such discussions a complete waste of time? No doubt we all agree that the MDX is a vehicle of exceptional quality and in comparison to other vehicles the MDX is an exceptional value as well. All of us probably find that there are some features that we wish it did have and many other features that we very much enjoy. I mean does it really matter weather we use a certain word (ie. luxury) to describe it?? I just don't see any real value in the direction this thread is heading. I'm not trying to step on any toes, just my 2 cents... |

Well the thread I started was about my VERY NEW X in the shop already, which I got over very quickly with an MDX loaner. Funny how this thread morphed into something else. Well I am supposed to pick up on Tuesday. BTW, the loaner was disgusting inside, so much so I had to clean and wipe down the interior- full of cracker crumbs, juice, papers, wrappers!!!!!! How's that?

That's because you got the loaner from a high class luxury dealer that probably also sells GM, Ford, Mazda or some other luxury brands.
Complain about the loaner condition when you return it. A good dealer would give you a free oil change or something for your trouble. |

Hey Echo, I see your still fixated on what luxury is or isn't. The thread wasn't started expressly to prove or disprove that point. Your missing the content of the original thread. BTW my dealership sells only Acura "luxury" vehicles. The SA will be hearing about the condition of the loaner.
