Hey Friends...Been a long time!
I just got back from my trip to the SMokies and had a strange problem. When applying brakes at 50+MPH, the vehicle would wobble.
Not sure why. Did any one on this forum face such a problem?
Thanks |

| Wobbles or pulsates? Pulsating when applying the brakes probably means warped rotors. |

| my vote is for warped rotors. |

Warped rotors. First time? Low miles? Dealer may do a courtesy rotor turning and new front pads.
Some dealers do, some don't.
Don't be abusive, but complain it should not be doing that with so few miles.
They did mine at 19K.
Now, it's starting to do it a little again at 41K. Time to roll out the jack & stands. |

Thanks everyone!
But aren't the rotors included as a part of the 36K warranty? I do have 18K on my odo, so will request them to have it replaced for free, lets see what they say. The dealer I work with is horrible anyways.
Thanks, |

Thanks,
Brakes, tires etc. are not included in the vehicle warranty after the first 12 months.
Good luck! |

Very true. These vehicles (and they are not the only ones) seem to be prone to rotor warpage. At least, there have been quite a few complaints, or I don't believe some dealers would have done 'courtesy fixes' at low mileage.
Maybe the later MDXs (04-05) are better in this regards, although I imagine the specs are the same, maybe the materials are different. |

| My new 2001 (at the time) Acura CL Type S was NOTORIOUS for warped rotors ! BIG TIME COMPLAINT accross the board ! However my 1998 Honda Accord had not ONE issue with warped rotors......they must have changed the suppliers to cut cost. This doesn't surprise me AT ALL ! |

| Our warranty it is for 4 years 50000 miles BUMPER to BUMPER, of course with some exclusion here and there, but rotors are cover, not the brake pads. |

This is also my understanding.

Pads are not, normally. But when you say rotors are we talking replacing for defects, or is turning also covered?
Plus, you don't want rotors turned or replaced without also new pads installed. |

| yeah, my rotors seem to be warped too. so, I ordered a new set of cross-drilled and slotted rotors, and a new set of axxis pads.... I guess the MDX is just HEAVY. Wish they would've put larger rotors on these things. |

Good luck with those-
I'd predict they will be WORSE than the stock. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though...
The slotting and cross drilling reduces thermal mass and surace area, worsening the heating problems that warp rotors. People think cross drilling helps cooling- it doesn't.
You need larger rotors- with greater swept area and greater thermal mass- to stop warpage.
I had to turn my rotors once. Next time they get replaced. On the third set of pads. 100k. Driver is very unaggressive..

keeping my fingers crossed. on my other hon-duh's I've had good luck with cross-drilled rotors. so.... hoping my luck continues... |

| I always thought that with cross drilled and slotted rotors they're larger to make up for lost surface area. |

that's only for those "big" brake kits. but, those usually include new mounting brackets and other custom parts to acommodate the larger rotors. Otherwise, to replace just the OEM rotors, you'd have to get rotors that were the same diameter or they won't fit. |

The VTEC del Sol had 160 HP right? Is it really slow?
Back on topic though, going with a big brake kit almost always necessitates bigger wheels. Though I'm sure that the people looking for bigger brakes already have 19" or 20" wheels. |

no... you're right the Sol is not slow. it's not blazingly fast. But, it's fun.
and you're right about the bigger brake kits needing larger rims. also, they're usually heavier? which may also affect mpg. |

| just got the rotors in. what a P.I.T.A. I'm getting too old to do this stuff. But, the $495 the dealer wanted was WAY too much. |
