Hopefully someone can give me some insight on this noise I'm hearing. I've done some searching, but haven't found something matching my description.
I have a 2001 MDX with 85k. This noise is not related to the infamous 'Thud' TSB; in fact, I have recently had both front damper units replaced and the spring silencers installed.
What's happening is I hear a loud 'clunk' from the front of the vehicle when I am accelerating hard while the wheel is turned. This seems to happen quite a bit on left turns onto various busy roads. The wheel doesn't have to be turned much. I can't really 'feel' it, but it's loud enough to make people look over. I've never heard it while turning at low speed, while not accelerating or any other circumstance. Wheelspin is not a requirement.
Any ideas? |

| It's hard to know for sure but some possible culprits are: CV axle or engine mount(s). |

| Engine mounts would be my guess. cv joints usually make a clicking sound when there failed. |

I think it's safe to rule out the driver's head hitting the side window? |

That only happens during right turns.
In all seriousness, I have actually broken out a side window with my head...in my very first car. I guess that explains a lot. While I was turning, another driver hit me in the rear-side of my '90 Integra hard enough to spin it 180 degrees. I was wearing a seat belt, but that didn't keep my head from annihilating the side glass. I wasn't hurt badly but the car was totaled (and the accident was not my fault). |
