| well, i don't think it will be an issue for ppl that do quite a travel and fit in the 10,000km/6 months (whichever occurs first) service interval. but for ppl who don't drive that much~ which one do you follow? the actual mileage shown on the odo or whatever the suggested number of months between months?:confused: |

IMHO this is one of the best argument's for changing the oil more often than most auto manufactures suggest (I know they have a severe use schedule that accounts for short trips/limited use over time. Most machinery, requiring maint. has a hour indicator and requires service based on time usage not distance. All US military vehicles are serviced this way (much like the aircraft industry - service based on time usage versus mileage).
I use the severe use maint. schedule (or 3000/3500 US miles reg oil and 5000 if full synthetic - may be overkill) to determine my oil change schedule. That way I am covered if I have a lot of stop and go or idle time on the engine. Now if you know all you put on is highway miles you might want to push those time-lines out. |
