| I have an '04 MDX and have had front brake problems from the git-go (~200 miles) where the front brakes heat up and sizzle a test liquid (H2O). We have had dealer inspections without success, i.e. no fault found. The last incident rendered the vehicle "unsafe to drive" and "life threatening". The front brakes activated without driver intervention at 55MPH, stopped the car, retarded power in the process, and ultimately seized the front brakes up, immobilizing the vehicle. All this on a downhill 2 lane mountain road frequently used by double rigged logging trucks. The current dealer looking at the problem is outstanding, good service interface and an outstanding technical capability, however they can not replicate the problem. We are hung up in no mans land, traveling continuously for 6 months in the back country (full time motorhomers), sans car and any remedy from Acura and no end in sight. I've seen many postings on front brake issues, front tire or steering wheel pulsing etc, however has anyone experienced this front wheel braking problem as I have described? |

Can VSA or ABS actuate the brakes on their own without the driver stepping on the pedal?
I haven't heard of anything like this. |

The ABS must have an input from some outside force. I do not know the implementation of VSA but the description makes me think that the brakes are used as part of the control.
I am puzzled about the problem description. How many times has this brake lockup occured? What is the status of the vehicle at this time?
What does "The last incident rendered the vehicle "unsafe to drive" and "life threatening"." mean? Did the brake lockup cause another problem?
Where is the vehicle now? Is the shop driving the vehicle to find the problem or just shop testing?

| The problem has occurred twice seperated by 5 months. The vehicle is at a dealership and they are being assisted by Acura tech support and a VSA module expert. I believe the modulator went into the TCS control mode erronously and that commenced the braking. The dealership declared the vehicle unsafe to drive, and I will have to sign a waiver to take the vehicle out of their facility. The life endangering comes from an abrupt stop and a vehicle behind us (logging truck) not anticipating an abrupt stop would careen over us.The infrequent occurrence of the problem has made is unlikely the dealership will find root cause of the problem, as they haven't found it in the last week. The MDX is outfitted for being towed behind a motor home and we must depart this location now. Thx for the replies, Ken |

I would think that if the dealership declared it unsafe to drive that they would be responsible for either providing you with an exact replacement or at least a suitable substitute until yours is fixed.

As I said before, we are in transit. We bought the vehicle in Las Vegas and we are currently in Oregon. I can't hold this dealer responsible, however we are working in a positive manner with Acura
and they are responsive, an excellent company. The dealership has been outstanding, very cooperative and one of the sharpest technical staffs that I have ever dealt with. The dealership is Kendall Acura of Eugene Oregon. I would recommend them anytime, anyplace and under any circumstance. |
