We have an 05 MDX and recently changed to a Verizon and the Motorola V710 and now when the car announces we have an incoming call and we try to answer it drops the call.
We can make outgoing calls with no problem. We had a Cingular V551 before and it worked fine but the Cingular reception was so bad in our area we had to change and I understand the V710 is the only phone Verizon uses.
I called Motorola who told me to call Acura. I called Acura and Hands Free Link and they say it is a Motorola problem. Verizon has been trying their best to help (tried 3 different phones) but no one seems to have any answers.
Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions.
I would appreciate any help. |

I have the same phone as you and also an '05 MDX and mine works great.
Does it happen every time?
Any chance your phone is on auto-answer?
Or could you be hitting the back of the HFL button instead of the front (I doubt it, but worth a shot). |

| I just ordered a new bluetooth phone for use in my MDX and have a question. When a call comes in will the caller I.D show on the nav screen ? How do you know who is calling otherwise? Thanks |

Answers to your questions:
ilovetocamp - It must be the phone; I have an Audiovox 5600 which works great and see lot's of other 05 owners have different phones that work fine too.
Copout221 - Incoming calls don't display anywhere except on your phone.
HandsFree changes I'd like to see:
1. Display incoming calls on the navi screen, or on a separate display, like the 04/05 TL.
2. Display the contents of the phone screen on the navi screen instead of in the corner of the radio display.
3. Announce incoming calls by stored name for names stored in the HandsFree Link. With today's technology, just saying "You have an incoming call" is dumb.
4. Outgoing calls are confirmed by "would you like to call "John", requiring you to answer "Yes" before the call is dialed. It should just confirm by saying "Calling "John"". The HandsFree Link gets the name right 95% of the time and if it picks the wrong name, you can cancel the call and start over.
5. Finally, if it's not asking too much of a "luxury" car maker, I'd like to see most of these changes incorporated into the next DVD update.
That's it.

This should answer your bluetooth and Verizon V710 question.
I went through my phone settings and they are the following;
Bluetooth Setup: Power - On, Name - Motorola Phone, Voice Dial - On, .
Settings: Ring Style - loud, In-call setup: Answer opt - multi key - off, open to answer - on, msg alert - always on. Initial Setup: Speakerphone - Always on.
Car settings: Auto answer - off, Auto handsfree - on, Power off display - 0 minutes, Charger time - off
Headset: Autoanswer - off, Voice dial - on
Location: 911 only
Connection: Incoming call - normal
Check the handsfree in the car by checking the System. Mine was set to voice prompt so when there was an incoming call, I didn't know when to push the talk button, it was confusing. To check this, use the system section of the handsfree setup. That's on page 164 of the owners manual. Choose your male or female voice, ringtone or prompt (here I chose RINGTONE), no security code was chosen and that seemed to work for me. When the phone rings now, the V710 rings, the radio shuts off, and the car's handsfree rings.. Pressing the talk button (top rocker position) answers the phone.
The X's answer method works with ringtone is selected. Prompt causes the dropped calls.
Check these settings and see if we're close.
Here is the lengthly thread regarding the Verizon V710 issues.

Ok, what if I have the person who is calling stored in my phone or navigation. Will that person's name show when calling? If not, Acura really did not do a decent job of incorporating this system into the MDX. What a Joke !!! |

It won't show up on the X's screen. I haven't checked to see if it shows up on the phone but I'm sure it does. I don't know if it's Acura's integration of the bluetooth technology or bluetooth or Verizon. Verizon has had many of the bluetooth's features disabled for your "security". That way you have to pay to upload ringtones, wallpapers, etc. The good old "American way.. Regardless, it's better than the StarTac phone I had before. I'm happy because it's a great improvememt over what I had before.
Good Luck |

You should know Acura's "near luxury" status results from their "nearly got it right" approach to engineering.
You're right, the best you get with an 05 MDX Bluetooth incoming call is either a ring tone, or the optional "You have an incoming call" message. It would be nice if the system displayed the incoming number, or better yet, announced the name of stored callers. But, Acura "nearly got it right" again!
My work-around is to Velcro my smallish Audiovox 5600 to the dash where I can see either the incoming number or read the matching stored name; at least Audiovox got it right. My solution defeats the feature of being able to leave your BT phone in your pocket or bag, but it helps resolve Acura's screw up. This may not be an attractive fix for "flip" type or larger phones.
I'll bet Lexus gets it right!
Disappointed,

tlhurlbut, thanks for taking the time to post your settings. I checked them all hoping that was the problem but it looks like mine are all the same as yours.
I still think it is the phone but Verizon has tried 3 different phones and still no luck. It worked so good when we had the V551 that I think it has to be the phone but my wife talked to service at the Acura dealer and they said to bring it over and they will get it working or find out why it won't. I am taking it there on Wednesday. If we can't get the phone working I am told they are coming out with a new LG phone later this month that will be capatable.
Thanks to all for the help

What about the Lexus RX330, does it show the incoming information on the Nav or Radio display? I may have to get rid of this MDX and buy a Lexus !!!!! Maybe the GX470, it seems LUXURY !!! |

| I think you'll find the majority of the problem is Verizon's modification of the bluetooth software they require for using their network. Motorola had to disable many features of the bluetooth, according to Verizon's instructions, that's why there is a class action law suit against Verizon's bluetooth limited features. The outcome of the law suit will determine what Verizon does with their software and how it works with bluetooth. At this point, I'm not sure the LG phone will be much different. Your V551 phone was an older phone that wasn't disabled because Verizon hadn't figured out that they could make money charging for all the little extra's bluetooth could upload. Now that they figured out how to charge for the extras, they are have a captive audience. Other carries haven't limited the bluetooth features so they work like they are supposed to. Let's hope the lawsuit changes Verizon's direction. |

I didn't read all the posts in great detail, but I think the only problem is in the MDX.
Because of a defect, in my opinion, you cannot set the MDX to prompt you on an incoming call. i.e. "you have an incoming call" as it will drop the call. Instead that option must be set as ring. This WILL solve the problem.
Let us know if it works. |

| It would be interesting is someone knew who to ask and could get a straignt answer. I'm satisfied with the ring but having all the options work would be better. Standing by. |

You're right. I switched it to ring instead of announcing and now it works. I still like the announcement of the incoming call better than the ring so I hope this will change in the future.
Thanks to everyone for your help! |

| One can only hope. Ilovetocamp, are you still going to the Acura dealer to see if they can get the prompt to work with your V710? |

| I thought I would call them on Monday and tell them what I've learned on here and see if they have a fix. If they don't I guess I will live with it the way it is. |

I went to the Acura dealer today and the tech said the problem was on the circuit board for the Hands Free Link. They didn't have a board in stock so they were good enough to pull one out of a new MDX on the lot.
To make a long story short it still only answers when it is set to ring instead of an announcement. They haven't given up and want me to bring it back next week and leave it so they can find a fix. I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble we might just let it ring. |

Called Acura Handsfree link support the other day and the person answering the phone said the voice prompt should work. I told him it didn't but he insisted it would. After the conversation, I switched back to the voice prompt and couldn't answer the call. When the voice prompt announced and incoming call and I pressed the talk button, I was disconnected. Changed back to the ringer and it worked so I'll get back on the phone to Acura Handsfree link and tell them they are all wet. Their number is 1-888-528-7876. Their e-mail address is: support@handsfreelink.com. The more of us that let them know they still have a problem, the better.

| I just picked up a new Motorola I605 (Nextel IDEN) with bluetooth that I have been using in my MDX through the handsfree. Sometimes it will drop an outgoing call as soon as it starts dialing. After switching from the verbal prompt to the ring prompt it has not done it once. I also called handsfree support who would not answer any of my questions about what I discovered because they had no knowledge of my phone and it had not been tested and approved for use by them in with the Acura systems. The main thing I found is that tlhurlbut is correct with the bug in the system when using the verbal incoming call prompt however Acura would not listed to me when I attempted to explain. |
