let me start by saying that this really isn't a comparison at all. i had a 2001 dodge durango (4.7L), that i picked up after i traded in my 1998 ford f150. i bought the durango so i'd have some room to tote around my new family. well to make a long story short...the durango tanked in value. absolutely tanked, it didn't help i rolled in so much negative equity from the f150, but it was pretty much worthless after a year and a half.

so while me and the missus were out paying a visit to our friend over at ed voyles acura in atlanta ga. we went out for a test drive in an 02 MDX. i was in love from there. it was roomier, quieter, more powerful, had tons more options, and built waaaayy better than my durango. but they didnt' have the options and color combo that me and the wife wanted. two weeks pass...and a 2004 NBP/touring/NAVI with 35k miles, ends up on the lot....5 hours later (lots of haggling) im in the MDX and i've never been happier.

we hate to say it but, i don't think we'll ever buy american again...unless it's a vette, gto, or a cobra (i'm a sucker for american muscle)

Welcome to the family. Sad to say, but American SUVs fall short in many catagories. I owned an 02 Explorer before the MDX. No comparison.

My wife and I were out car shopping. One of the vehicles on our list was a GMC denali. Sure it has more power, and can tow more than the MDX, but the power has to be able to be usable. The MDX just out shined the GMC in handling, finish, smoothness and comfort.
With the Gm sale going on now, there was about a $7K difference but I think we will be happy with our pick (see user name).

Greetings and salutations. After checking out the GMC Envoy and Chevrolet Trailblazer, I'm glad I went with the MDX. Can't say that I checked out the Dodge Durango, but I'll take your word for it.

I would hope that MDX faired better than the Trailblazer and Envoy. They are in a whole different class, competing more directly with the Pilot. Don't believe the MSRP sticker on the window, they are heavily discounted. A more direct comparison on price would have been the Yukon. But the Yukon is a different animal altogether - larger and much more towing capacity. Most people shopping the MDX are comparing the Volvo XC90, the Lexus RX330, etc.

The Durango's leaf suspension is great for towing; horrible for everyday driving. Someday Chrysler will understand they need to use 21st century technology sooner.

Everytime I stopped behind a Durango, I always notice how large the gap between the bumper and the tailgate is. :cool:

Yeah...I know exactly what you mean! I also "love" the fact Dodge used the same tail lights for the Durango (1st gen) as the minivans.

the only thing good about the leaf springs was that it was really easy to lower, blocks and you're done. but the ride between the two is like night and day. the x is so much quieter, it doesn't squeek, rattle, or groan. i was attached to the d but our x is the shiznite

The current Durango has coil springs and a Watts linkage. It's acutally not a bad drive for a body/frame SUV - much better than a Yukburbhoe. If I real towing to do, it would be my first choice.
