Check this out... it's pretty amazing.
http://earth.google.com

I DL'ed it last night and gave it a test run. I could zoom into where I live and see pretty detailed images of my surroundings. It will even overlay info such as restaurants, shops, ATMs, etc. You can also do driving directions.

Google is definitely one of the most innovative tech companies. Their stock is at $300 right now and they are valued at around $84 billion.... that's more than Disney or HP. Amazing for what started out as a web search engine.

Google Earth is still in beta.... so I guess they want to limit the users so performance isn't affected right now. Good thing I was able to DL when I tried it last night. The product is really awesome. You can scroll around and it streams the data. Unlike having to click and wait for the map to reload like the TerraServer link. It was about a 8mb DL so it's an actual program you run.

Yeah...it is freaky...I can see EVERYTHING on the top of my house....Pretty soon you will get live updated images up to 45 seconds apart at the google site.

The Satellite feeds it to a receiving station then down to a datacenter at Yahoo co-lo with a Storage Area Network that will on demand in a synchronous situation update the images.

This will allow google to allow GPS services via internet.

Cool ! I think there are some nude sunbathers near my house. I was able to download at work but for some reason my email thinks there's a virus in it so I can send it to myself. Wait..maybe gmail will work.

Edit: Gmail won't send .exe files "for security reasons". :3:

Gmail won't send .exe or .zip files. Just remove the extension from the filename. Then when you DL it, add the extension back on.

I'm currently hooked up to a dial-up connection (RV Park) so I'll wait until I'm back at my home base in a few weeks to try Google Earth. From reading the information on the web site it sounds like the same satellite images available on the Google Map site. http://maps.google.com/

The satellite images I've looked at on the map site are about 3 years old. Two year old homes down the street from our new home site are not yet built. The Earth web site said they are updating images on a rolling basis. Must be a slow roll.

You, my friend, are a genius. I should have thought of that. Wish it would just work. It's like giving medicine bottles with childproof caps to old people.

I just downloaded it and it's very cool.

Yeah, you can view certain terrain areas in 3D so that looked really cool. I also checked out Niagara Falls, which I have never been to. When I get some free time I'll have to roam around Europe... :)

I got a chance to check it out last week. Seems pretty cool especially with the "flying" from place to place. Also seems clearer than google maps. I was able to get a good view of my neighbor's derelict cars.

In the North East, looks to be a little older. I zoomed in on Foxboro, and Gillette Stadium is in the early stage of construction. Pats finished their 3rd season last year and stadium took several years to build.
