If the kids enjoy watching DVD movies on trips, think of how much easier life would be with a 40-gigabyte hard drive that could store as many as 40 feature films or thousands of recorded songs in your minivan.
GM will offer the first portable hard drive to store movies and music in its new 2005 minivans: the Buick Terraza, Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV-6 and Saturn Relay.
The hard drive - with as much storage space as an Apple eMac - will be available as an option early in 2005. The DVD player and video screen are standard equipment on the Saturn and Buick minivans. The hard drive replaces the DVD player and can be removed to download movies and music through a USB connection to a home computer.
GM's minivans are the only vehicles to offer a removable hard drive for entertainment, but the feature seems so useful that other automakers will probably follow suit.
The vans' three-mode entertainment system lets passengers simultaneously listen to movies, CDs and the radio through its headphones and separate audio channels for the front and rear seats.
What is going on here? The Honda/Acura has to get in gear and improve their offerings in entertainment!
I couldn't believe my 2003 MDX premium stereo was so poor. No automatic volume control, no RDS, not to mention MP3, not even in the RES. |

Cool, let's hope Acura sees this as a wake-up call! |

With Honds's history of watch-wait-and-plunder, these goodies will probably be another 3 to 5 years brewing in the R&D brain room. :(
I still can't get over some of the luxury features absent in the X, e.g. auto-down for all windows (very useful if you have small kids), and others besides, that have been discussed ad nauseam.
If only GM made reliable vehicles...I hope the Saturn/ Honda engine idea works. |

So far my GM truck is the only one out of our recent vehicles (Chevy, Honda, Acura, and Toyota) that has not been back to the dealership for warranty issues............:8: . |

I would rather hope to see Honda increases the level of luxury in Acura car instead of such gadget things.
Well, somebody may consider such 40gig Harddrive or something like that as luxury items. But, to me, luxury car means, no gas sloshing noise, no brake squeeky noise, better leather seat, promising drive train (no sudden death of Tranny) etc.
I have owned 3 Acuras so far. I don't have much complaint about those cars. However, more and more I can not stand Acura brand is still called "entry level" luxury brand. Frankly, even 10 years old BMW 7 series interior appeals more than my 04 MDX. Why!?!?!?!?
did I ever buy Bimmer? Nope. However, seriously, I am more and more getting away from Acura's.... Maybe I am getting old? but why do I feel better when I hop in my 5 years younger brothers 2001 X5, even better when get in 7 years younger brothers 2000 323 coupe ???
Yes! Acura need to wake up. Even though their selling record is still going up and up and up, when it actually falls, it means it is too late to recover....
My 2 cents... |
