I live in N. Cal (Antioch) Huge fire a mile South of me. Check out the smoke and fire plane !
3 years ago the hill in my back yard caught fire and almost burned us all down....

Yes. I'm a SOCAL girl and the weeks surrounding July 4th just absolutely give me the creeps. (All these folks w/ DIY fireworks displays, too many beers, and the false security of a garden hose!!)
I think there were 6 or 7 fires in my community over the weekend caused by out of control revelers.
There ought to be a law!!! (Oh wait - there is - but no one heeds it!)

I got stuck in a ton of traffic the weekend before the 4th because some moron started a fire along 580 on the Altamont! What a bummer. We got to Yosemite very late because of that.
Here's how I spent my July 4 weekend:
I camped at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA and rode my bike around the track as fast as I could! What fun!
The funny looking thing on top of the X is one of those Shower-in-a-bag things. It gets very hot on top of a black X in the 90+ heat all day. They are great for rinsing dishes and/or showering if you are camping. |

| We saw a Toyota Camry (maybe a 4(?) year old model) on fire yesterday on I-5 while leaving the LA area (at/over the mountain/pass). They managed to drive the car to the side and get out in time. As we passed them, we saw them standing outside as far away from the Camry whose motor and front end was on fire. Hopefully it didn't start a brush fire right there on the freeway and shut it down. |
