I don't know New England amusement parks but...
Though it's in Lancaster, PA it is perfect for young kids (we're going in August) and have been there the last 2 years. It's in the middle of Amish Country.

Storybook Land is right outside Atlantic City in South Jersey. (I'm actually going there tomorrow). It's small but extremely clean, beautifully landscaped and perfect for young kids. Ocean City, NJ is close by for a weekend beach/amusement outing.

In Central PA, another amusement park for young kids. My wife and daughter have been there and said it's a great family place. It's apparently the "opposite" of Six Flags Great Adventure -clean, safe and family-oriented.
