Installing mp3/ipod in 2005 w/Nav - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm starting to wish I'd bought something else...

Seeing as there isn't currently anyway to hook my Ipod up to my 2005 MDX unless I want to give up both XM and my CD changer I decided to get a wired FM modulator. It's not a great solution but I figured it would work until "someone" made an adapter that would work. I pulled out my head-unit and stared in disbelief at a square antennae plug...square. WTF? I decided to drive across the street to Best Buy, not the best installation facility but I thought it would work for a second opinion. I found a tech (with gold teeth so I'm pretty sure he's seen the back of many a car radio) and showed him. He echoed my WTF. He said that VW had something similar and went to grab an adaptor which didn't work.

Am I asking to much to want the same ability to play my mp3's that some kid with a $100 head-unit in a 93 Civic has? Money really isn't a factor here and I would tear the guts out of the system if it wasn't a lease.

You would be amazed at how far behind Honda/Acura and the rest of the OEM automotive world is on integrating anything aftermarket with any of there systems.

You would that with OEM integration of satellite radio that Ipod or MP3 player integration, especially in a luxury class auto, would prove to be an excellent oppurtunity for the manufacturers. If not for the owners of said vehicles, but then for their children. How many families that own and Acura, Lexus or Infiniti have at least 1 Ipod in their house. And if they don't, they should offer the vehicle with one, and they could mark up the price like they do with everything else, like 200%, and Apple would be thrilled and so would the rest of us.

I've talked with parts people for all these makes, at the regional distrubtion level, and none of them say that their manufacturer is interesting in integrating "toys" like the IPod. This has to be complete B.S. They integrated DVD, NAV and auxillary inputs for crying out loud. These were all "toys" when first introduced. The least they could do would be to offer a factory alternative.

Sorry for the rant so early on a monday, but it just seemed appropriate.

I did the same thing, asked the guy in our local best buy for some install tips and he just laughed at me when I asked him for an AUX interface for the 2005. He told me it may take a year or more for some OEM to get the interface since they changed the layout of the stock radio interface. :3:
