We just signed the paperwork for a 2005 Touring/Nav/RES with Side Steps. The total (including destination) was $38600 plus tax and DMV fees. The MSRP on our model was $44545 and invoice was $40180. The dealer stated his list price on the sidesteps at $900. Assuming $400 to $500 as a realistic price on the sidesteps, we ended up paying about $2000 below invoice. :D
After gathering pricing info both here and at Edmunds forums, I sent out email inquiries and got back about 6 quotes all for about $500 less than invoice. I was surprised to see pretty good quotes right off the bat without any offer from me. I guess the current $1500 factory to dealer incentive is allowing that.
We went to the closest dealer in Concord and they kept trying to push a "protection package" of wheel locks, all-weather mats, cargo tray, body side moldings, and door edge guard that they had priced at $1079. They didn't have the color combo I wanted (Silver/Quartz) but said they could get it that night from another dealer. My best offer there was $38650 for side steps only. They came back with $39800 for side steps AND protection package. They wouldn't even give me a quote for side steps alone. :banghead: Counting our test drive we spent 90 minutes there.
We got up and left! That your best tool if you want to get your price. I got on the phone to the other dealers that had come back with a price and got a civilized, no-hassles response from Acura Pleasanton Automall. :18: We quickly agreed to a price of $38600 ($50 less than I was willing to pay at the other dealer) for the Silver/Quartz that I wanted with the side steps alone as I wanted. I got the email to confirm the price within 5 minutes and it took me about an hour to get all the paperwork done at the dealer. We even got to take a spin in our actual car that still had white plastic over the exterior paint, seats wrapped in plastic, and plastic over the wheels! That was weird but the car drove great.
As it turns out, Pleasanton, where we bought our car is owned by the same Autogroup as Concord, where we had difficulties agreeing on price/options. We've had good service experiences at Concord with our 2001 MDX, so we were planning to go there for service. Pleasanton was selling a prepaid service plan which was good at either Pleasanton or Concord, so we ended up buying all services through 45000 miles at every 7500 miles (total of 6 services) for $1100. We plan to go use it at Concord.
We're looking forward to taking delivery!:) |
