I'm not sure what I should say just yet, but if you've had to pay for the EGR valve for failing and you were out of warranty, I hope you saved the repair order/receipt.

Even if you didn't save it, the dealer should haven't on file shouldn't they? |

Of course. But more than likely...reimburstment will be issued through American Honda, not the dealer.
American Honda is issuing a warranty extension to 8/80k on the EGR valve. Customers will be mailed a letter beginning in August.
Let me be absolutely crystal clear on this now...
THIS IS NOT A RECALL CAMPAIGN! Do not think the dealer will inspect and possibly replace the EGR valve on every '01 MDX and the '02s that fall within the VIN range if it just happens to be in the shop for any other reason. You have to spefically complain of a hesitation or surging condition in order for this TSB to be performed. |

Not exactly sure what you're asking. If you're asking how do we diagnose a bad EGR valve, it involves hooking a scanner up to the MDX, and driving the car and having an assistant watch the voltage readings from the EGR Valve Lift Sensor. If it's too erratic, we'll be replacing the EGR valve.
If your'e asking if how to tell if you may have an EGR valve going bad, then most people that have a bad EGR valve complain of a surging condition anywhere between 15-45mph while lightly on the throttle. The check engine and VTM-4 warning lights may be also on. |

Can you give me details on how to check for this, I would like my friend to check it out with me. We hooked the MDX to my AutoScanner and everything checked out ok but it gave me a P1491 code says Manufacture Control; Auxilary emissions control.
I want him to check out the EGR Valve before I bring it back here again and have these lights come on again.
Thanks!
