Replacing Factory Stereo/CD on 05 no RES/NAV ? - Click HERE for Original Thread

With the seeming inability to integrate an ipod except via transmitted FM modulation with the factory stereo and still retain use of the CD changer, I suppose I'm considering totally replacing the Factory stereo.

I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Is it possible to get a decent fit/finish with an aftermarket stereo? Will it look sloppy? Further, are there any stereos that will let you retain the steering wheel controls?

Now, I haven't installed a stereo since high school and things have changed alot in 30 years, so I'll likely not be doing it myself.

Anyhow has anyone who has done this been satisfied with the result? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

You don't have to replace the factory stereo if all you want is to connect your ipod w/o modulation. Logjam Electronics has the Soundgate SNHOND3 which is an aux input converter -- the factory stereo and cd will remain functional. The only catch is the XM radio will have to be disconnected because this is where the converter plugs into on the back. I'm not sure if there are any other new converters out there w/c won't disable the XM radio. I helped install this converter on my sister-in-law's X a few months ago and it works/sounds great with her mp3 player. Hope this helps.
