I'm thinking of trading my 2003 Acura TL Type S w/ Navi (49,900 miles) for a 2003 MDX Touring w/ Navi (38,900 miles).

The dealer (Acura of Orange Park) is offering me the following terms:

Sale Price: $31,995
Trade: $21,750
Trade difference: $10,250
Dealer Fee: $500.

Any feedback or input on this vehicle and offer would be much appreciated.

The dealer is also offering me a new Touring w/ Nav for:
Sale Price: $39830
Trade: $21,750
Trade difference: $18,080
Dealer Fee: $500.

Thank you in advance for your advice & opinions!

pej7445,

Traded my 03 Navi (SS/Quartz) with 28k miles for an 05 Navi (SS/Quartz) on 3/3/05.

Rick Case Acura gave me $28,500, did the 30k service, installed new tires, certified the car and sold it for $31,000.

I paid $39,600 (before the new $1,500 rebate offer), no fees, etc. for the 05.

Sounds like your dealer's a good $2-3,000 high on both the 03 and the 05. Check this site; buyers are getting great deals now.

My opinion: I had both an 03 and an 05 and, if you can afford the difference, go for the 05 Navi. It's more refined, has lot's of upgrades and the new Navi/Bluetooth/XM Radio/OnStar package is a HUGE improvement over Navi alone in the 03. Be prepared to walk if the dealer won't do the deal for $37,000 WITHOUT fees.

Good Luck,

vincent

Vincent,

Thank you for your reply. It's convenient that you could offer a comparison between the 03 and the 05 models too!

Do you think that the 05 is significantly better than the 03? Also since your climate and driving conditions would be similar to mine, what kind of fuel economy do you get w/ your X?

I guess, what make this transaction difficult for me to evaluate, is the variable of my trade. I've been doing a bit of research and shopping a little bit and believe that the $21,750 they are offering is very strong. According to the "black book" it's only worth about 18k, which is depressing. I've been watching several TL-S w/ Navi on eBay, Autotrader and other local ads and they seem 'soft' in my market.

Thank you again for your input. I truly value it.

I'm glad to help.

Your dealer is giving you an "overallowance" on the trade to make you feel good; that's why he's $2-3,000 overpriced on the 03 and 05 prices. He probably figured getting a good price for your trade was your hot button. If there's a Car Max near you, they'll give you a fair written offer for your TL then you can compare real values of what you're buying and selling. Dealers love to confuse people with overallowances. Then go back and work a better net deal and save the sales tax dollars by trading in.

The 05 rides better, has improved brakes and leather. The 05 Navi is very superior to the 03 with better voice recognition, more commands (including radio and air). And then there's XM Radio, OnStar (which includes a 2nd cell phone service option) and a very good built-in Bluetooth cell phone interface, if you'll use them. I was surprised at lot's of other small improvements as well.

Good luck; post your decision and the final deal.

I got lucky tonight and got a used 05 Touring Navi/RES Satin Silver w/ 5244 miles. It also has the body side moldings, clear-bra, mud-guards, wheel locks. Got it for $37,500+++!

The car was traded back to the same dealership it was originally bought from after only 89 days, the owner changed their mind!! (strange). S

Because it's a certified pre-owned, I get full bumper to bumper warranty to 62,000 miles and a 7/100k drive train too!

Thanks to Vincent for your advice to get the 05 rather than the 03!!

It was fate or destiny, or whatever you wanna call it :D

Not a bad deal - you're already halfway "accessorized," which is probably the hobby of half the members here.
