Need Help Quickly!!! My appointment is August 2nd. Ed Martin will price match other Honda and Acura dealers.
Ed Martin Acura - Indianapolis, IN - wants to charge me $540 for a 60,000 mile maintenance check-up.
Tom Wood Honda - Anderson, IN - wants $360 with the A/C Micron filter and brake fluid change, not flush.
How can I get this to a reasonable amount of $150-$200
Ed Martin Acura- Indianapolis, IN
$299 for 60,000 mile maintenance includes:
Oil Change = $36
Transmission fluid change
Rotate Tires
Brake Check Only
Air filter change
$60 for Rear Differential fluid change
$90 for A/C Micron filter change
$90 for Brake fluid flush
----------------------------------------------
$540
Tom Wood Honda - Anderson, IN
$299 for 60,000 mile maintenance
Oil Change = $25
Transmission fluid change
Rotate Tires
Brake fluid change and Brake check
Air Filter change
A/C Micron filter change - included
$60 for Rear Differential fluid change
----------------------------------------------
$360
I can nix the oil change which only has 2500 miles on it. The tires are brand new so rotation is not necessary, but they have to check the brakes so no savings there.
Ed Martin was going to verify Tom Wood's price, but I would like them to verify someone with a lower price in my area. Any suggestions?
Any items that are unnecessary, and can be deleted?
I may be at their mercy since I need it before my appointment Tuesday, Aug. 2nd.
Thanks,
J.T. |

Rotate your own tires and change the air and micron filter your self. The micron filter should be a piece of cake since it was changed at 30K and the bracket has already been cut. You could also have some of this done at an independent shop. Good luck. |

I went to my local mechanics that charged me $235 for major 30,000 mile services that include differential oil change.
$590 is way too much!!!
Pollen air filter is a piece of cake if you just follow the instruction from this forum. 10 min. work the most, the filter is about $20 something! so they are charging you $70 for 10 min. labor. |

Tires should ALWAYS be rotated, regardless of new or not (Unless you put them on this month. . .)
Not sure how you "change" brake fluid without flushing.
Yeh, do the pollen filter yourself - get it from Tim. |

from my own experience try to get as many parts as you can by urself to save costs on oil and etc...
i am located in australia and when i had my lasty major @40,000km
i bought ATF, oil filter and air filter from US ebay and i managed to save up 120 Us dollars... i bought 4 ATF for 12 US where my local dealer asked for 12 AUS per bottle... |

Well I got them to match the Tom Wood price, and include the Micron Air Filter and Brake Fluid change. Now they are saying they have found a rare front right caliper corrosion problem with the brakes that has caused a pin to seize this would normally cost $460 to repair, but they will do it for the low, low price of $360 dollars. This is complete and utter Bull $#1t.
I took this car in at 50,000 miles to do a full inspection before it went out of warranty. I had them specifically check out the brakes because I heard a clanking noise, they installed brake shims to fix the problem. This is just barely over 10,000 miles ago.
Could improper installation of the shims cause the afore mentioned caliper problem?
I forgot about the oil change at 55,000 miles where they did a full brake inspection with no problems.
Need advice in a hurry
Thanks,

Sounds like they are trying to make their original quote back.
Did they install the shims and do the 50k inspection? |

Actually had them do the 45000 mi inspection at 44978, and made a special 49878 visit to correct some nagging issues, and do a full inspection before it went out of warranty. (The brake shims were installed at the 49878 final warranty check-up)
(The driver's door still rattles when closed even after they supposedly inspected the door beam clearance.)
Could corrosion go from fine to so bad that it would cause a caliper pin to seize in 8000 miles from March 3 to August 2? (no salt, no snow, occasional rain only)
Could improperly installed brake shims cause this corrosion and pin seizure?
I am not mechanically inclined at all, but something sure smells rotten in Denmark. |

| $590.00 is not that bad. Toyota dealers want $560.00 for 60000 miles service on my minivan. |

| DaleB |
Follow the earlier advice for the maintenance mix (DIY and only what's necessary, etc.)...
And get a 2nd opinion on the brake from an independent shop.
If they agree on the work to be done, and the cost, then call Acura regional for consultation since the dealer was the last one to work on your brakes. |

I would echo what Dale said, you'll never really know if there was corrosion seizing the pin or if they screwed up. If an independent shop verifies the problem then contact Acura (not the dealership) to explain the "rare" situation and your potential switch to another manufacturer. It is likely you will get it fully/partially reimbursed through Acura's "goodwill". |

Hi Guys,
I have a 2002 MDX, bought it new and love it. Sadly to say because I love to drive it so much I put quite a bit of miles. She has already 61k miles and looking to to do 60k service on it. I have asked around and of course at the dealership it is quite expensive (in the mid $500 range). When I asked some local Honda-Acura shops they can do it for $250-$350. I have used them (the local shops) before on my 95 civic, 96 corolla and have no problem with them. But since MDX is a lot modern car I'm kindda nervous to bring it to them but looking at the price difference, well might give a try. What my question is, if I'm going for the local shops, what do I have to make sure that they will do, that is major for the 60K service on MDX. If looked at the list from one of the dealers, mainly all they do is inspect this and that and checking this and that and charge you a lot of money. So that is why I want to give the local shops a try.
Need some responses as soon as possible because we are trying to do the service this week. Try to go on vacation to Colorado with the family. Anyone know the best place to do some offroad in Vail Valley area?
Thanks all. |

We use to live in Colorado and did Jeeping in the summers and skiing in the winters. We done some difficult Black Diamonds trails, only for a Jeep Wrangler or heavily modified SUV.
For an MDX, do the moderate. X are not really made to go jeeping.
Here are some moderate trails that are scenic getting there and would not damage the X.
1. Mt. Bross - be over tree line (11,000 ft.). It's between Fairplay and Breckenridge. From Alma, head west on Buckskin road 8 from the center of the town across from the gas station. Just under 3 miles, turn right following signs to Windy Ridge. The road marked as F.S. 415 but new maps show the road as Country Road 787. Do not do Mosquito Pass. First part or the last of trail, depends where you are coming from is just big boulders that you will have to crawl over.
2. West Lake Creek Road - easy trail except wet weather creates a few small mud hole. Get off Interstate 70 at Edwards exit 163 and turn south. At .03 miles turn right on US 6 at a traffic light and drive .07 miles to west Lake Creek rd o the left. Ther is a sign indicating forest services access. Head south 1.8 miles and turn right, staying on the paved road. Continue straight after the pavement ends for a total of about 5 mles from Rt. 6. When you come to a tight curve with a sign for Baryeta Cabins, follow the signle land road to right of sign.

Look in your owners manual for the services required at 60K. Have your local guy do only these. |

3. Shrine Pass - easy. Exit Interstate 70 at exit 190 between Copper Mountain and Vail. There is a large rest area here. Turn west then bear to the right and follow signs to Shrine Pass.
4. Ptarmigan Pass - easy to moderate Turn off Shrine Pass Road 709 about 3 miles northeast of Redcliff or about 10 miles southwest of Vail Pass exit 190. Watch for a small bridge on the south side of the road.
Again, I stress this to you AS-MDX. The X is not intended for jeep trailing. Please just do the easy to moderate. They are still a great scenic fun drive. Also, stay on the path. DO NOT get off because you may kill lichen patches, mosses, or plants.

Thanks Sooner in FL.
I kindda started a new thread for my question regarding the trip to Vail Valley.
http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&threadid=22245
HighcountryMDX also warned me the same about X not being able to do the difficult trails.
Again sorry for going off topic. |
