That is great news! Knowing that I'm going to be able to pick up an "uncool" previous model for pennies. |

By the time they release the V8, major manufactures already came out with a V10, then it's gonna take Honda another 10-15 years to make a V10, then by the time Honda release the V10, major manufactures will come out with a V12.....
do I have to go on ?? |

Honda would have had a V8 years ago, but according to some people I know with the inside track, Honda feels that V8 goes against its corporate mantra of environmental responsibility.
But, I also know that Honda plans on a Nascar team in the near future, probably the reason for the shift in paradigm...... |

The RL? It's going in the RL first according to the article............. |

| And here I am, happy as can be with my '01's V6. I had V8s from '63 through about '93, and don't miss 'em a bit. |

My comment was about the truck pic in the first post...(yes, they state the RL first and then the truck)... just a personal opinion.
I've always felt that HP and front wheel drive doesn't mix. Steering, weight distribution, and just the real estate to make reliable (read transmission) components... oh well.
Interesting to hear this at the same time that domestic 'big suv' sales are tanking... |

Honda pondering V8 development

Takeo Fukui, Chief Executive President of Honda, told Reuters that Honda will decide within three years whether or not to produce a V8 engine. The decision depends heavily on the success of the current V10 it’s developing for the next NSX. The article notes that Honda has in the past stated it would not develop a V8. Fukui, however, simply states, “If we make a V10, we might just as well make a V8.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves. More than likely the Ridgeline is behind Honda’s change of heart. As Toyota learned with the Tundra, six cylinders just isn’t enough for a truck in North America. In order for the “ugly truckling” to earn respect as a pickup and begin to gain sales, it will need both the extra power and bravado image only a V8 can provide. Beyond the Ridgeline, we would expect a V8 to find its way into the Pilot, as well as the Acura RL and MDX. If we really stretch our imaginations we could foresee Acura switching to rear-wheel drive and even a V8 S2000. Now wouldn’t that be nice? |

V8's are more hype than reality.....with gas at $2.50+ who needs something that will suck up more of it?
Honda should focus on making tranny's that will LAST with higher HP engines. That IMHO is their achilles heal. I just bought an MDX and going to tow with it. You can be sure that I'm going to watch the tranny closely.
I'm already disappointed with the hitch setup they put on. The draw bar is so loose it makes a gigantic racket. When I showed the parts guy how loose it was, he just shrigged his shoulders.....I had to come up with a shim setup to reduce the excessive clearance. I shouldn't have to do that on a $38K vehicle :3: |

| I wonder what gas prices will be by then for a V8? I just filled up my QX56 at $1.47 regular grade, for a grand total of $58.00! Great to have a V8, but at $58.00 a tank fill up....I'll pass. :p |

Opps...correction...$2.47 a gallon! |

| My point exactly. By 2010, regular is going to be around $4. That V8 better have mileage over 40mpg. The way fuel prices are moving they should be offering a hybrid 4 cyl on MDX :D |

The 5.3L V8 in my Silverado (more HP/Torque/Vehicle Weight) provided equivalent gas mileage to the MDX in real life driving. Perhaps Honda can start there. |

And yet MDX ends up with a ULEV rating. Maybe Chevrolet can do the same? :)
My friends Silverado 1500 Crew Cab gives around 9 mpg. Another friend with the Avalanche, and same engine, gets around the same mileage. Either your math is wrong or you're drag racing your MDX :2: |

I've got a 1500 Crew Cab and I get 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway - same as we got with the MDX under the same (normal) driving conditions. I've verified several times taking the same routes. We've also got a Pilot that gets about the same.
The 5.3L comes with a Cat system that meets ULEV in CA with no claim of a decrease in HP/Torque or MPG. So they can do it - it must come down to bean counting as far countrywide implementation goes. |

| Boy, that IS different. I get around 16.3 with city driving and 22.8 on highway. When using Shell V-Power, I get around 24.1 mpg on the highway |

The MDX is rated at 17/23 using the unrealistic EPA driving conditions. Do you drive that conservatively or are getting that mileage driving normally? We get the 12/18 driving normally. |

Took some getting used to. In city driving I usually don't face too much traffic here so its almost a constant speed of 35-40 mph from home to work and back. On the highways, I usually set the cruise at 70 and the mileage climbs up quickly.
Considering that I gunned my smaller cars before, this took some adjustment. Just slower starts seemed to make a difference. |

You guys are all worried over nothing about the gas. I bet the v-8 will be a hybrid. Guaranteeeeees!!!!:2: :2: :2: :2: I'm guessing it will be something like electric to the front wheels and gas to the rear wheels.
I also predict Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes marriage will be a long a prosperous one.    |
