Was just wondering if there is anyone who is from the San Jose area. I would like to meet up and hang out. Another X'r Friend would be cool.

SR Hwy 9 is the scenic route through the redwood forest on your way to Santa Cruz. It is a good alternative the the more traveled Hwy 17. From Santa Cruz, Hwy 1 will take you to the city. If Big Sur is a 10 on the scenic drive scale, Hwy 1 through San Mateo county on the way to SF ranks a good 8.

I grew up on the central coast. If I had a couple of million to spend on housing, I'd be back in a heartbeat. The area is tough to beat--especially in August. Shred some mondo waves, dude.

Take I-280 North to 84 West. 84 is a nice scenic drive all the way to the coast if you want. that's the way I'd go.

Or you can stay on 84 and go down 35 (Skyline) till you hook up with highway 9 and go into Santa Cruz.

These are popular roads for cyclists, motorcycles, and sports cars. If they're all on these roads, then you know those are the good ones. But watch out for CHP on the weekends!

And in Santa Cruz? This may seem childish...but have yourself a deep fried Twinkee on the Boardwalk! Natural Bridges is also something worth checking out in SC.

This definitely a scenic route! If you get a sport car as rental, you would enjoy the curvy road. There is Alice Restaurant at the corner of 84 and 35, a good place for lunch.

If you're a surfer, you definitely want to take highway 1 back to SF. There are Montara beach, Pacifica beach along the way. The beach in Pacifica (right next to beach front Taco Bell) is crowded with surfers on weekends.

But if you want the real Mexican food (not fancy), go to La Taqueria at Mission and 24th.

Enjoy the visit!

I'm still hooked on San Jose..still suffer withdraw symptoms that bring us back to the bay area every 2 or 3 months.

I miss the weather, but quickly think about the traffic and it calms me down, for a while anyway.

I wish I had cataloged all the photo trips I have done in CA, north and south and everything in between. They are scattered everywhere. It's a beautiful state, and you can spend a lifetime exploring it, believe me.
