Anyone have used it on their MDX or has any information about it. I was in the market for getting the 9006 bulbs and came across the Halogen Infrared bulbs. These bulbs are spherical instead of tubular. The lightoutput information is impressive. But wanted to check before I look at buying it. It sells for approx $34 a piece!

Low beam stock: 9006, 12.8V, 55W, 1000 lumens, 875 hours
Low beam new: HIR2, 12.8V, 55W, 1875 lumens, 875 hours

High beam stock: 9005, 12.8V, 65W, 1700 lumens, 320 hours
High beam new: HIR1, 12.8V, 65W, 2530 lumens, 320 hours

Thanks,

Can you post a link, etc.?

These were originally done by GE. I could not get any links to the GE site regarding it. It is currently used as a stock bulb in Dodge Vipers according to this site:

A write up on a install on a Volvo:

Write up on it on the Toyota Prius Forums:

Forum information:

Googling for HIR has lots of results, all of them positive.

I know GE came out with some lamps that were to be competitive with SilverStars..I think they were called Nighthawks.
I never heard much more about them..maybe this is what they evolved into.

I dont believe the nighthawks and these are the same ones. The night hawks are sealed beam headlight/foglights. you cant replace the bulbs in those... These are replacement bulbs using a technogy which GE had for years but adopted to automotive lighting a couple of years back. The prices on these were pretty expensive then. A few manufacturers picked it and now you have a variety to chose from.

I will post pictures once the upgrade is complete.

I've never been much for aftermarket parts, but this looks promising. I'm wondering what the catch is. It doesn't get the extra light output by requiring more watts. No stupid tint to the bulb so you can impress you poser friends with your new HID look. And no extra heat. Just some infared reflective coating to make the filament burn hotter. Very promising...
