I have 3 questions regarding the the stock dvd player on a 2005 MDX Navi & Res(DVD). 1) have older homemade DVD's using an OLDER version of NERO software, these seem to get stuck on the main menu. I can't select a scene or advance or play further. Ones recorded with the latest version of NERO I have no problems.
2) Can this DVD player decode & output DTS audio sound?? I haven't been able to make DTS-only DVD disc play the audio portion, I get a picture but no sound?? 3) Is our audio/viedo player made by ALPINE?? Thanks for any help.:)

1. I remember there was a thread some time ago discussing problems related to certain DVD-R brands. This problem could be related. Do a search.

2. May not be DTS compatible. I'll try one my DTS DVDs later. I suggest you just choose DD instead. Besides, even though I think DTS is better than DD in general, I doubt you will hear any difference with the Blose (unless you've upgraded your audio).

3. Can't help you here.

Thank you for your input... I'm actually using DVD+R disc... As far as the DTS goes it's wierd, but it actually let's you see the DTS option on the menu set up screen, but doesn't let you highlight them or select it???-But it knows it's a DTS disc. The reason I wanted to know the manufacturer was to contact them and crossreference their player and ask them about it...Don't get me wrong I love the way the system integrates with Navigation/cd player, but I'm an audio fan and dolby digital is a lousy compressed signal, where DTS is straight sound uncompressed, unaltered signal much cleaner, dynamic, though you are right through the Bose system you can't really tell knida like cd to mp3 comparison... Thanks again, anybody have any input on this??:4:

AFAIK, the current DTS is still lossy. If you're talking about DTS-HD then thats a different story.

IIRC there was discussion the RES was made by Panasonic. Also that DVD-R was the best choice. So if anything try coping your DVD+R to a DVD-R and see if you have better luck playing it.

Apparently certain +r and -r brands do work with the RES. Here is a long thread which talks about +r/-r compatibility with the RES.

Thank you both for your input. Has anyone gotten a DTS disc to play?? By the way cool picture of your kid with the sunglasses, he looks like a rock star!

Finally had the chance to try out some Superbit DVDs and concluded that the RES has no DTS decoder. Oh well, like I earlier said I probably won't notice any audio quality improvement even if it was DTS compatible anyways.

No DTS decoder. I put in the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DVD, which has a DTS-only bonus audio track (Seven Bridges Road), and it was not recognized.

Thanks you for confirming no DTS...Bummer. Oh well. Still wierd that it knows it's DTS disc, I wish Alpine or Panasonic would have charge us $50.00 more and just to give us the decoder from the get go...

Thanks to all who replied, do get me wrong I still love system and the car!

:D
